Only redeeming quality
I never understood why this movie got so much hate. It's basically Mad Max on water. I thought it was very entertaining and have watched it on multiple occassions. I guess some people are just more susceptible to what biased critics think about movies and go along with crowd hating on something.

Just the stupidest scene in a stupid movie.

One of my guilty pleasure movies.
Guilty pleasure why? It's legit awesome. Sure, there are some silly things in the movie, but that's part of its charm.
What always struck me is that Waterworld was known as this gigantic box office bomb, but it actually made $264 million against a $175 million budget. So it wasn't a bomb really (at least not in terms of production costs...I realize there are marketing costs also attached and Hollywood Accounting bullshite in play as well).
But it's just a fun arse movie though, and the stunts are pretty cool. And Costner's ship is badass.

it was the most expensive movie ever made at the time and it underperformed at the box office. It did eventually make a profit after home video sales
it was more about all the drama and mishaps during production that fueled the negative narrative

Now the bigger question....Waterworld or The Postman? I love both

I love them both unironically
the postman is most patriotic movie in recent years if you can bear the long run time and Costner hamming it up. And it has the best musician cameo in a movie ever LOL

I watch waterworld at least once a year. I love dystopian films like that, and the plot is still unique to this day, which is a rarity in film.

Ditto. Waterworld was the post-apocalyptic world land version of Road Warrior . Both gave you the good, bad and ugly along the way, but what you wanted in the end.
I see the obvious post apocalyptic comparisons between WW and RW, and that’s maybe where the negative reviews come about. I actually liken WW more to Independence Day in its tone of being the schmaltz-filed summer blockbuster where a cheerful ending for our protagonists
makes us overlook all the tragedy. But I think that WW plays too many scenes that should be “dangerous” as “adventurous”.
Still believe it’s a very enjoyable movie to watch. Along with The Postman, I think it’s poor reviews are undeserved.

Ditto
Its a movie that always gets put on worst movies ever lists yet I I rarely see anyone IRL say that they hated it.

how happy is that one guy, since the Mariner didn’t want to stay on Dryland?
LOL
i watch waterworld at least once a year and up until this moment that had never occurred to me. Bravo

the crew that made it to dry land was one fineass woman, a female child, an old man, one adult man and the mariner. They are the only people there. The mariner left, leaving one dude who’s dick probably works to make all the new babies
no competition LOL
