Get Out maybe the most overrated film of the century.

Out of that entire list I've only seen:

City of God is probably the best movie on that list if we're being honest.

Terrible list.

The only LotR movie they have is the worst of the 3.

I think you know why it was so universally praised and heralded.

Tree of life : I’m sorry that was 3 hours that just didn’t make much sense.... but Malick gonna Malick

I mean the Hurt Locker won Best Picture, and was decent, not sure it was anywhere near the best that year.

Zodiac should also be on this list. Big miss.

Pixar had at least one of the best, either Wall-E or Up.

It is underrated because it didn’t come out in time for awards season. (It was originally scheduled for December 2006. Got pushed back to March 2007.) As such, because it was an afterthought by the end of the year and didn’t get nominated, people forget about it.

Historical trivia: The Silence of the Lambs was originally scheduled for Fall 1990. But the studio, Orion, was in a dire shape and needed Dances With Wolves to be financial hit. So they pushed Lambs to February 1991.

It was actually a very good decision. Wolves won the 1990 Best Picture Oscar, and Lambs won the 1991 Best Picture Oscar. Orion still went under (go figure), but they had two financial and critical successes back to back. They were the original Mirimax.

Not arguing that it should be Fury Road either, but lol

Choosing between the auteur epics released in 2007 is pretty impossible. I'd probably pick it over There Will Be Blood, but more people would probably choose No Country. All are acceptable to me.

What’s it competing with in 2017?

Three Billboards
Good Time
Dunkirk
Lady Bird

I prefer those to Get Out, but I’m not going to throw my hands up at someone who disagrees.

They expanded the Best Picture category to 10 nominees in 2009 because The Dark Knight wasn’t nominated in 2008.

This led to the absurdity of The Blind Side being nominated for Best Picture in 2009. Later, they revised that rule to say it could be up to 10 nominees.

But more to your point, if The Blind Side was considered one of the best movies of 2009, then The Hurt Locker, by comparison, probably has a good case for the best movie of 2009.

It's not like 2011 was a groundbreaking year for movies. The best films to come out that year were films such as The Artist (Best Picture winner), Moneyball, Hugo, The Help, and War Horse.

This is an easy movie to re-watch when on cable.

Tree of Life is probably the best movie of 2011.

You left off Margin Call, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, and Midnight in Paris.

Hugo is sneaky good but I think you had to see it in the theater to get the full experience.

Best movie of 2005 was The Forty Year Old Virgin, but even something as dumb and vapid as WatchMojo would refuse to list a mainstream comedy, even a nearly perfect one, above an artsy melodrama like Brokeback.
