My first time seeing it. Great movie. That ending, damn. I can't remember the last time i genuinely felt sad for a character like I did Dave. I do wonder why he didn't come clean to Celeste about what really happened that night outside the bar. I guess his head was filled with so much despair, he probably didn't know how to convey anything to anyone anymore.

The best American crime novel ever written

“Thank you for finding ny daughter’s killer Sean. If only you had been a little faster.”
- One of the most epic 2 lines in movie history imo. The face Kevin Bacon (Sean) makes after Sean Penn (Jimmy) says that is something I’ll never forget. Great ending to a movie. Shitttt... great movie!

That was a great moment. Also, Daves interrogation by Sean and his partner at the station. "Are things looking any better on that Sprite...Sean" His sort of moxie during that was unexpected. How he controlled the situation and as Sean said "kicked their asses" was something you didn't see the rest of the movie out of him. He absolutely owned them in regards to the issue with his car.

The acting gets mentioned a bunch but the way Clint Eastwood shot that scene especially the aerial shot at the end with the score playing, that was exceptional stuff.

I was super late seeing this movie as well, probably about two years ago. The ending pissed me off so bad, but in a good way. Excellent movie that actually lived up to and actually surpassed the hype.

Sean Penn in 21 grams > Sean Penn in Mystic River

Read the book years ago. Great story. Going to have to watch the movie now after reading these comments.

Dennis Lehane is criminally underrated for being legitimately one of the 2 or 3 best "genre fiction" writers of the second half of the 20th Century.
I know the film adaptation of Shutter Island got a lot of shite (totally undeserved IMO - it's one of Scorsese's best shot films ever) but the novel is a fricking whale of a psychological thriller.
Wish they had adapted more than just Gone Baby Gone with Casey Affleck and Michelle Monaghan. Great cast, great flick.

I didn't know Shutter Island got crap, I loved it in the theater and I still love it now.

It was a great cast, well played, motion picture.
It was a take on the old grapes of wrath scenario ... dumb guy is the scape goat.
The girl that was killed - she became kinda famous after that movie even though she had very little screen time. Great on screen presence. Emmy Rossum.

Mostly just from your average internet Sherlock Holmes who claim they "guessed the twist in the first minute" and it ruined the entire movie.
I'm hopeful that it will one day assume its rightful place as a consensus Top 5 Scorsese film.

The book is far superior and I do enjoy the movie Shutter Island. Ruffalo was pretty shite but everything else was good quality. Mystic River is a great film but the book got me back into reading many years ago. I said crime novel earlier but it's more of an American tragedy. Great frickin book.

Not surprising. I was too enthralled by the performances of Leo, Ben Kingsley, Max Von Sydow, Ted Levine, etc to try and be a sleuth the whole time. Great final scene between Leo and Ruffalo
