The deal with the bat was pretty damn funny too, especially since it leads to the “Eureka!” moment that Santiago wasn’t getting transferred.
“He really DOES think better with that bat.”

Terrible. Marines don't salute indoors and uncovered.
Thank you. I know it's nitpicking but that kind of shite in movies always gets on my nerves.
I was on Active Duty when this came out. Ruined the whole movie for me.

Galloway: One of my first cases was a drunk and disorderly. The trial lasted 9 weeks. I called over 30 witnesses.
Caffee: 9 weeks? What was the prosecutor offering?
Galloway: 15 days. They moved me to Internal Affairs after that.

I wonder what would have ended up happening to Kenrick and Jessup.
I think Kendrick would be pretty screwed because he was a small fish without any patrons but I think Jessup would have ended up mostly skating, probably just being forced to retire or something.

One of, if not my favorite courtroom/trial movies

The famous line is “You can’t handle the truth!”...but the pivotal line in that scene was “Did you order the code red!” “You’re god damn right I did!”
My favorite funny line is when Tom cruise says “oh seven hundred...in the morning?”

It's not like Cuba was going to invade the base. Jessup was a fricking idiot for worrying about some nobody who didn't even want to be in the service. It was dumb as hell for him to act like the he was at war and was the last line of defense for America. Not only was Jessup wrong, he was a shitty leader who was a liability due to his delusions of grandeur.
It wasn't about Cuba or national defense. It was about his massive ego and his need for everyone to know that his word should not be questioned.

Cruise had some great lines in that movie and delivered them perfectly, I thought he was funny as hell

Dawson was probably the most honorable and likeable character in the movie. The actor playing that role did a great job.
He wasn't even an actor before the movie. Rob Reiner saw him (performing some other job around Reiner) and said, "now that's the kind of guy we are looking for to cast as our model Marine.

Capt. Ross : Corporal Barnes, I hold here the Marine Outline for Recruit Training. You're familiar with this book?
Cpl. Barnes : Yes, sir.
Capt. Ross : Have you read it?
Cpl. Barnes : Yes, sir.
Capt. Ross : [hands him the book] Good. Would you turn to the chapter that deals with code reds, please?
Cpl. Barnes : [confused] Sir?
Capt. Ross : Just flip to the page of the book that discusses code reds.
Cpl. Barnes : Well, well, you see, sir code red is a term that we use. I mean, just down at Gitmo. I don't know if it's actually...
Capt. Ross : Ah, we're in luck then. Standard Operating Procedures, Rifle Security Company, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Now, I assume we'll find the term code red and its definition in that book. Am I correct?
Cpl. Barnes : No, sir.
Capt. Ross : No? Corporal Barnes, I'm a Marine. Is there no book, no manual or pamphlet, no set of orders or regulations that lets me know that, as a Marine, one of my duties is to perform code reds?
Cpl. Barnes : No, sir. No book, sir.
Capt. Ross : No further questions.
[as Ross walks back to his table Kaffee takes the book out of his hand]
Kaffee : Corporal, would you turn to the page in this book that says where the mess hall is, please?
Cpl. Barnes : Well, Lt. Kaffee, that's not in the book, sir.
Kaffee : You mean to say in all your time at Gitmo, you've never had a meal?
Cpl. Barnes : No, sir. Three squares a day, sir.
Kaffee : I don't understand. How did you know where the mess hall was if it's not in this book?
Cpl. Barnes : Well, I guess I just followed the crowd at chow time, sir.
Kaffee : No more questions
