I mean I’m not gonna talk shite about any Navy SEAL but that story has been picked apart so much over the years. Large portions of it are completely fabricated and/or embellished. Doesn’t make those fellas any less heroes than the guys in Warfare. But there’s a reason tons and tons of veterans have come out and said Warfare is the closest thing you’ll ever see to experiencing how actual combat is and you don’t really hear any vet say that about Lone Survivor.
Lone Survivor is a movie. A good one.
But Warfare is an experience.

Based on this thread I watched it last night.
Great movie.
I liked it. But I did have some thoughts similar to above about how once the attack started the SEALS seemed to do a lot of standing around looking like deer in headlights. I get it, that's some scary shite for sure. But the looks of complete confusion like they hadn't been trained at all didn't seem accurate. I don't expect a whole team of Rambos, but come on. I chalked it up to the grenade rocking the leader and his confusion trickling down.
Ironically, the red headed new guy that they were joking about in the beginning stepped up and fought like Rambo once he got his mind right.
Who was the guy who was blown in half when the IED went off? That body and parts was left there even after they bugged out. I thought SEALS didn't leave anyone behind?
Good movie, thanks for the recommendation.

It was actually a miracle they got out with zero team members killed

those weren't SEALS. they were local soldiers/interpreters.

AH, OK. I forgot about those dudes.
I just spent some time on IMDB reading all of the trivia. Really cool how the run time matches the actual time this all went down.

Was able to watch over the weekend. Fantastic movie. Probably my favorite of the year so far. Tense as all hell. Watched with some active noise cancelling headphones. When that IED went off about pissed my pants.

That being said it was just a great movie that did great things by what they didn't do. No BS sensation, just a snippet of a day in the life and all for really nothing.
That movie also confirmed what I thought, that that place is a shithole and why would we ever want to be there with boots on the ground in the first place. No upside at all.

I mean their mission was simply to hold their position and provide Overwatch (sniper and potentially suppressing fire) for a group of Marines (Baker Company) same for OP-2 (the secondary group of SEALs.)
Once their position was exposed with the grenade, it was time for them to bail anyway and that’s what they did pretty effectively until the IED went off. Pretty much everyone outside of Mac and the other guy was caught in the concussive force and all of them had pretty bad concussions, if not worse. Plus they had two guys down. There wasn’t shite they could do (especially considering they were basically surrounded but had no idea by how many or the positions of the enemy without airport) until the other group rallied to them. They were sitting ducks. You say you don’t expect them to be Rambo, but you expect them to see through walls where every enemy is, know where the IED is, and fight off at least a dozen enemies with two guys down and at least three of them concussed?

Agreed. And a lot of modern war flicks don’t really give those guys in the Middle East enough credit for being tough arse crazy SOBs. They certainly don’t have the tech we have but their tactics and knowledge of their terrain, both urban and otherwise, give them way more of an advantage than what people think.
Most people think they’re just simpletons and barbarians but those frickers are smart. They basically knew where the OP-1 was, started a diversionary tactic by attacking Baker Company, to pull air support away from the SEALs, and then started hammering their arse. They were also smart enough to predict that the Seals would send out the translators first so they waited until more of them came out then blew the IED. Just an all around terrible fricking place to do war and have boots on the ground.

Don't be a dick. This isn't the OT.
I don't expect them to see through walls.
But standing around not covering the stairs, not helping with first aid, not covering entry ways, seems "un SEAL like". Yes, I know they were concussed, but I bet the real team wasn't quite so stunned. My guess is that some artistic license was taken to add more tension and sense of danger.
Either way, I said I liked the movie, I just felt that part was worth mentioning.

Not being a dick. I just think you have unrealistic expectations for how soldiers, even elite ones, handle incredibly fricked up situations. They made mistakes, for sure, but that’s going to happen when you lose four members of your squad.
You don’t expect them to see through walls but you expect them to do everything perfectly after an IED just basically wiped out four members of their team. They have to have eyes on the 6-8 family members of the building they just took, have a couple of guys at the front (which they did with Tommy and the other sniper) and a couple of guys providing first aid (which they did) Ray was helping Sam and Mac was helping Elliott.
The guys that were going to be covering the stairwell bailed (one was blown in half) and the other just ran off. The interpreters. Team Leader was fricked after the IED and that’s what he relayed to the other team leader, Jake, so he could handle shite and get them out with nobody dying

Good headphones or sound system are a must.
They must have shot real rifles at the cameras. The bullet and shot noises are incredible.
