re: Varsity Blues question: Why did Moxon take the key players out the night before a game??

So where was West Canaan exactly? It definetly wasn't west Texas from the geography, but the population was mostly white, so it may not have been northeast Texas, either, unless it was some rich Dallas suburb... Which it obviously wasn't.
Central plains, Abilene, Odessa, Midland, Big Spring. Except not a bigger town on I-20 obviously.

always just figured it was more Austin area.
Just looked it up and it was shot on greater Travis County. That's why it doesn't look like West Texas.

i live in Central Texas and the movie depicts nowhere around western Travis County except maybe somewhere like Llano or Burnet.
looking at the filming locations, Elgin and Taylor are more like the towns size wise but those are east of Austin. Albeit, trivial.
I grew up outside of San Angelo in a 2A HS in town of 40 that does closely resemble that type of school

The strip club was right outside of Austin, I think somewhere on 290 East of town. Though to be fair, it's been quite a long time since I was talking to buddies about where that was.
I've never really given much thought to whether it was supposed to be set in or based on any real place, just a caricature of small town football - or HS football anywhere - where the games are more important to the coaches and dads than they are to any of the players except 1 or 2 who have legit chance at playing college.
There have been all sorts of "legendary" longtime HS coaches who are bigger than their players. I mean, Gordon Wood coached 25 years at Brownwood racking up all kinds of records, but I never thought Kilmer's character was supposed to have anything to do with him.

What I don’t get is that somehow Mox, Lance, Billy Bob, and Tweeter were shown as being on the same teams growing up all the way back to Pee-Wee leagues. So 2 QB’s, an OL, and a receiver, all from the same future graduating class.
So, Mox was backing up Lance his whole life and they never tried him at any other position? Mox seemed athletic enough relative to anyone else at West Canaan, and no one tried to see if 13 year old Mox can hold his own at safety or WR.

Lord loves a backup QB. You get all of the trappings of being the starter, none of the stress, and being the understudy your path to glory is well defined should it arise.

I assume Tweeter was the best athlete not only in the team but maybe in the country. I assume that because he stole a cop car, drugged girls, and drank beer on the field after the game. Only the best athletes can get away with that shite.

Also battery with a dangerous weapon when he hit that guy in the groin with a bat for no reason.

Mox was a teenager. That may not completely excuse his behavior, but we were all dumb kids that thought we knew everything. Kilmer was the villain as he put winning a game over the health of the players

I don't know any 17 yr old that wouldn't have banged Darcy outright right then and there when I was that age.
For what? To salvage a high school relationship??

Tried the whipped cream bikini trick with some girls back in the early college days. It just slides right off. Have to go shaving cream to get the look right.
Good times.
