The first reactions are in for DC Comics‘ body horror thriller “Clayface,” with journalists and fans calling it “freakishly awesome” and “everything you want from a villain-led movie.”
Directed by “Speak No Evil” filmmaker James Watkins from a screenplay co-written by “The Haunting of Hill House” creator Mike Flanagan, “Clayface” stars Tom Rhys Harries as the DC Universe character and Batman adversary. Clayface is Matt Hagen, an actor whose face is disfigured by a local mob boss. Desperate, he volunteers as a test subject for scientist Dr. Caitlyn Corr (Naomi Ackie), who transforms his body into clay and causes him to lose his sanity.

I like to wait for the actual reviews. Most of these first reactions are always glowing. Most of these people have websites and they don't want to lose access so they're not going to shred a movie. I do hope it's good though

I think it's a full blown villain. It recently got Rated an 18 in the UK, the equivalent of NC17 here. Sounds like it's a pretty gory film

I suspect it will be akin to Joker. I.e., a good story that will be very loosely connected to the Batman universe.

If it at all follows the Matt Hagan storyline in the comics, he targets the gangsters who disfigured him. He doesn’t start killing innocent people. If that’s the case, wouldn’t he be considered more a vigilante than a villain?

Mike Flanagan knows how to write horror.

Hagen found a pool of chemicals. The original clayface was an actor, though he wasn't disfigured by gangsters.
It appears this is a composite of some of the many versions of Clayface, given the most moviegenic name.
Unless they're doing the animated Clayface, who was already a composite of comics versions, but i don't think he was disfigured by gangsters.

Are we going to get a Penguin cameo? Or is that a different Batman universe?
I can't keep track.
This looks pretty good from the trailer. Freaked my kids out

Sounds like Darkman. I hope it's better.

You may be correct in that they are doing a composite of several versions of the character, but it in the trailer it appears that he’s being held down and his face is being mutilated.

Disfigured in a car wreck but he ended up as Clayface when a gangster gave him an overdose of the stuff he had been using to fix his face.
