Tom Hooper’s “The King Speech” proved a controversial winner at the 83rd Academy Awards, winning the top prizes for best picture and best director over the far-more acclaimed “The Social Network”

The Kings Speech is a far superior movie. Not even close

Actors and Academy members such as Ernest Borgnine and Tony Curtis spoke out against the film, both saying John Wayne would despise the movie because of its gay cowboys. Lo and behold, “Crash” prevailed over “Brokeback Mountain”
blaming Ernest Borgnine is certainly a take

Can we stop saying this? It's fine if you prefer the kings speech, but to say not even close is absurd.

1997 Basinger for LA Confidential awas weak compared to Amber Waves.

Bonus:The Full Monty over Boogie Nights for a Best Director nomination is a rofl memory.

1. Sean Penn winning Best Actor as Harvey Milk over Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler.

THEE END.

That's a good one. Complete fricking bull shite. That one should have been Rourkes. Sean Penn only one cuz he was playing a gay guy.

10. Tom Hooper Wins Best Director Over David Fincher

Robert Redford and Kevin Costner winning over Martin Scorsese are even bigger travesties not to mention Ordinary People beating Raging Bull and Dances With Wolves over Goodfellas.
Can’t believe the list doesn’t include How Green Was My Valley over Citizen Kane

Shakespeare In Love was a snooze, Saving Private Ryan should have won for the beach scene alone.

Shakespeare In Love is a really good movie a shame it won because all that did was cause people to hate it. I would have gone with The Thin Red Line

Spike Lee is a racist little a-hole, Do The Right Thing sucks, and Driving Miss Daisy is a far better film.

The movie with uppity angry blacks sucks but not the one with Unlce Tom but Spkie Lee is the racist

Do The Right Thing wasn’t nominated though it is a great movie, independent movies like that rarely is ever got Oscar consideration back then Born on the 4th of July or Dead Poets Society should have won

The ultimate irony is that if he played that role today he’d be cancelled because of cultural appropriation

Yes, Spike Lee is a racist. I didn't make this assessment based on his lousy movie.

What the frick?

You either love it or hate it. I hated it, don't begrudge anyone who likes it, but it is a head scratcher. It's just a dumb movie.

I will leave if someone has this movie on. It's my least favorite popular movie of all time.

I know people that hated it initially, but love it now, and vice versa. It's a strange dichotomy & I'm probably the strange one.

One thing Oscar lovers can all agree on is it’s rare for there to be an Academy Award winner that everyone agrees on (“Moonlight” and “Parasite” winning best picture are the rare exceptions, for example).

People agree on these? Moonlight and Parasite were fine movies but those years weren’t without controversy.

What the frick? I love Pulp Fiction and QT but Forest Gump is still awesome and holds up. It’s an incredible movie.

I’ve got to disagree about the holding up part. Upon first viewing, Forrest Gump is great. But as the years have passed and the more the movie is rewatched, it is clear that it is nostalgia fueled schmaltz based on “one joke”.
