Anyone watch this yet? I picked it up on 4K and watched it last night. It was not as bad as I heard it was - the created images, creatures, and worlds (and the city of a thousand planets) make it worth seeing. I think it just needed better leads to carry the (fairly obvious) story.

The leads were bad. They just had no chemistry.

The movie overall was ok.

It was worth a rent and a quick watch.

Caught it as a matinee when it was still out in theater. I thought it was enjoyable, but like most are saying, I felt like the lead actors were trash.

They could have taken the exact same plot, used the exact same shots, same dialog, everything. They could have replaced the main characters with their equivalent ones from the 5th element. Valerian = Corbijn Dallas, Laureline = Leeloo, Military guys with military guys, Galactic President with Zeus, etc..

He could have called it "The 5th Element 2 - Electric Boogaloo"

It would have made serious bank. But no, Luc Besson has to be an a-hole when it comes to Mila Jovavich, and he had to create his version of Avatar.

Made the same mistake as John Carter. If John Carter was Brad Pitt, the movie would have been a classic.

The importance of a great casting director. Stranger Things on Netflix works because they are seemingly able to pull talented actors out of thin air for every role. One of the big concerns about the Han Solo movie is that evidently the lead actor can't act his way out of a wet paper bag.

No matter how great the visuals and ground breaking the special effects are... you have to have the right actors or its going to crash and burn.

Is there a back story to this Besson Mila beef?

That's what I thought too. No movie like this that takes chances and is imaginative will ever get a super poor review from me, but the actors weren't strong enough to really drive the movie. Devigne was good and would probably have been better if they'd chosen a better Valerian. He looked more like a boy trying and failing to be Han Solo.

Movie had potential, but basically sucked because of the leads.

Blonde girl was HOT though, would bang, that dude needed to be an older actor. Too much of a baby face.

The kid who played Valerian was awful.

He looks like a young Leo but has 1/200000th the acting ability. Cara actually carried scenes with him, which is embarrassing.

Eta:

I was still entertained by the movie. Different and stronger lead male and this movie would’ve been pretty dang good I think.

Yeah, she's his ex. They got married after 5th element, then divorced a couple of years later.
