Sounds like we are getting at least one more season. Mahershala Ali is rumored to have signed on today to be the lead. Season 3 hasn't been greenlit by HBO, but gotta think if they have a story they will support

Won't live up to the first one but will be infinitely better than the abortion that was season 2.

I don't know how they're going to do this without the South La. landscape which was essentially the third main character.

I also hope Pizzalatto has recharged his batteries and creative juices. The best setting I could think of with Ali as the lead would be a gritty, early 1980s detective tale. I think thats kind of the only way to pull it off even though NY might be a little cliche.

I didn't hate season 2 as much as most when it was aired. But honestly, I remember 3% of what happened now. Whole season was completely forgettable

I really wish the second season would've been the other two cops from the first season investigating something. Either continuing the case from the first season (meaning there was more than just a creepy janitor) or just another crime in general.

I wish they'd go back to LA or even just go to MS or TX. I'd suggest the mountains in NC or TN but a lot of that terrain and topography just runs together on screen (much like L.A. seemed to in season 2; there was just no distinct sense of place the way there was in season 1)

I think it would be interesting to do something with black law enforcement officers in a rural setting -- like a sheriff's department or small town police. That's not something you see much of in the media and there are a lot of rural parishes and counties in La, Miss, Ala, etc. that are full of black folks.

The setting in season 1 was the best part of the show. I remember that shot of the guy with the mask at the end of episode 3 where you can just sense how hot it is and all you see is thick trees surrounding the whole area.

Mahershala is awesome.

Give this guy a good story/setting and it will be a hit.

you can find similar landscapes that add character

the problem is they have to find something that makes the show interesting. that's what made season 1 such a societal force (and why season 1 ultimately failed, because it turned its back on what made it interesting)

season 2 was just masochism/sadism. drab. dreary. uninteresting. dark and complex simply to be dark and complex

i think that location has potential. think about the isolation of Justified and how that can become its own character

the pacific northwest or Alaska could be interesting. rainy, dense forest, etc

i'm waiting for a show to do an "X-files" and create a realistic, serious show centered around investigating a potentially mythical creature (with rational doubts being paramount throughout)

or just do a straight up serial killer season

just stay away from ghosts, for the love of god

Well, we'll find out if S1 was a one hit wonder strike of lightning type thing or if S2 was just a sophomore slump.

I hope they do something in a remote location like Wyoming or something. Super bleak setting like Winter's Bone.

They made his novel Galveston into a movie and Pizzolatto wrote the screenplay. Comes out next year. Ben Foster playing the lead so it has a chance to be good.

you cant compare anything to season 1. Matthew mchonay and woody harleson were perfect. the mystery, intrigue, characters,s setting.

just make a sequel to season 1 left off

Totally agree. They left so many stones unturned... neither of them are cops anymore. They could hunt down all of the cult members, explore the maguffin's like Woody's daughter staging a cult scene with her dolls, the father-in-law being involved, etc...

At its core, season 1 was a show about classism. There was this suspected cult run by a bunch of rich Louisiana politicians and and businessmen and they were preying on the poor women and children of the state. Hell, they even went into a Houston ghetto and did a long tracking shot through multiple trap houses. The main characters were middle class at their best and one of them spent time banging waitresses and strippers, costing him his marriage. The downfall of the season was that they tried to make some sort of cosmic meaning out of the whole thing as opposed to keeping it a social commentary.

The problem with season 2 is that not a damn character was real or relatable. There was no class struggle to speak of, no plot to inject ourselves as viewers into. Is was just a bunch of superficial, cliched edgy, heady bullshite

Rust is an all time character but season 1 worked because of Marty Hart. He brought a balance. The audience went home with him at night.
