Plot was engrossing but the interplay between WH and MM was so unbelievably good.

Minor nitpicks but:
- didn’t understand why Ginger cooperated enough to set up the meeting after being double crossed and kidnapped by Rust after the housing project

- seemed like they wrapped things up pretty fast (compared to the rest of show) after they started working together in present day. Could have used another episode or 2 during this period

- connecting green ears to a green house being painted was a stretch. And the guy’s scarring didn’t seem that bad, at least not enough for everybody to mention.

These are minor criticisms. The show was so amazing. Like when Rust gets the killer mom to confess then calmly recommends that she kill herself. Wow.

Yeah one of my original nitpicks. Fees like it’s two big dudes vs rust. All he needs to do is give him a quick elbow. Unless they didn’t want to draw attention in the bar? It was weird.

Absolutely. That was some of the best stuff of the series. Clandestine activities like that are always awesome.

I thought it was pretty noticeable but I agree on the ears. I did like how they gave the final break to Marty after rust made basically every major break before.

Yeah the show is so awesome. One other nitpick I have is weren’t they technically trespassing on the Childress property and they weren’t law enforcement or acting with a warrant. By the letter of the law is Eroll just defending his property even doing so much as to retreat away from conflict

Ha ha that’s true. I guess that gets overlooked when you are trespassing im Carcosa or any other overgrown torture fort.

It wasn’t Eroll’s property. It was his dad’s…Who he had tied up and spit beer on. He also made flowers with his weird cousin in his dad’s house. Disgusting.

The end of EP4 when Rust is telling about them coming over the levee and it shows them seeing the meth lab for the first time and Reggie is down there in his underwear with that mask on, and Rust says "This... This is what I'm talking about. ... dream, a dream that you had inside a locked room, a dream about being a person. And like a lot of dreams, there's a monster at the end of it."

That gives me the chills every time I watch it. What a freaking episode.

Amazing television. It was a very powerful scene

It was an incredible choice for them to have the gas mask dangling and then freezing like they did slowly. Just great cinematography or editing or whoever makes that choice. It was awesome.

That is the scene I remember most from the series. Truly haunting.

You remember a dude in his underwear more than the greatest titty drop in history?

That scene and the whole ghetto scene is fricking unreal. The best season of television ever made. I bought that shite on DVD just to make sure I have it.

Eta: oh and the intro is the best intro for a television I’ve ever seen. It’s a masterclass in short video editing alongside a perfect theme song.

I feel like a LOT of shows have made renditions of that intro, some wrip offs clearly and some with a hint of influence and done well.

The casting and acting were perfect down to the preacher. Every scene has depth and weight.

Even filler scenes like this one. Rusty and Preacher

Every rewatch I see something different like rusty drinking in his interviews so it’s not admissible as evidence.

My favorite scene of the whole show is them talking about religion in the car in the first episode. Dark, real, and absolutely hilarious. Another brilliant tiny thing …the character actor who plays the second in command who doesn’t have a line at all. White haired guy who is always in full lsp uniform, amazing portrayal of the attitude of the state police. At one point Marty says f that guy. Lol

greatest single season ever. 3 is good. 2 isn’t as bad as the haters say.

this thread inspired a rewatch from me. my fourth time through it i believe. it gets better every time. one interesting thing on this viewing is that i find Maggie to be much less of a sympathetic character than i remembered. Marty is a shitty husband to be sure, but she is a pretty shitty wife as well.

it's so amazing how well they established the sense place and atmosphere of south Louisiana, right down to the notion of something just being a little off and vaguely sinister everywhere you go south of I-10. kinda like someone is always watching you. it's a strange part of the world, and one that i love but dont entirely trust or understand. TD nails it.

At one point he basically tells Cohle to STFU.

That actor is Don Yesso. He went to LSU and was later a high school football coach in Baton Rouge. He had a chance encounter with a director in an airport back in the day and started getting roles in shows and film. Never know when your life is about to change.

My fiancé is from that area of Louisiana and she says they just fricking nailed all the characters. She said the way Marty clenches his jaw when he talks and just the general attitude. She knows 100 people like that.

ETA; also Mcconaghy obviously nails the whole south texas thing as well as just being a weirdo outsider. You could be a totally normal dude but still be an outsider in that part of the country just by being from a state over.

Yep, dude totally nailed the cajun guy with a power complex strictly by physical acting. It’s amazing.

And Cohle has been cutting up the beer can for two episodes and you don't know what he's doing with it/just think he's screwing around but when he is saying those finishing lines and right before it cuts to that shot he places the beer can man/origami down on the table.

Man, just a perfect episode of TV.

He nailed it for sure. My old man was in LSP in the 70s/80s, serving in various capacities. He could pull off the disgruntled a-hole with the best of em.

Rust banging Martys wife was a bad move, granted he was out of his mind but I always find the.....errrr time that scene lasts to be funny.

Best season of TV imo, and I am a Sopranos and Wire die hard fan. Season 1 could have been a stand alone and probably would be regarded as the best series ever, season 2 ruined that but oddly it really didnt blemish the first season. I hope they find a way to bring them back in a future season (not sure how that would work but would be awesome).
