I frickin love this quote from a recent article on the show.

quote:

Halfway through the locked room of this season, one thing is clear: what we think to be true is likely as illusory as a prostitute's turnaround in a revival tent.

Great Article

In essence, we're watching it in a locked room which isn't really real because we don't have all the details yet

I agree with this

Edit - Except I do think a prost can turn it around

I am not sure about this article.

quote:

Episode four included a direct nod to Heart of Darkness. Concocting a dangerous plan to get close to Ledoux, Cohle reverted to his old self, the undercover cop living among bikers and dangerous drug dealers. He strayed into a rave, a scene as barbarian as anything in Joseph Conrad’s novella.

Rust didn't go to the rave, Martin did.

Given the context of that sentence, I think the writer's talking about the biker party

Anyone have a good explanation for why the narrative sequence presented to the audience in this show is not the actual sequence of events happening in the show?

Can't all be a stylistic choice or just continuity errors.

Yeah, but a rave to me is a party like the one that Hart stumbled into all drunk. That is a rave. Like you said the scene where Cohle went was a hard core biker bar scene.

Just thought the writer was out on a limb with some of his connections Heart of Darkness and this mix-up just did more to undermine his position, for me.

ETA:
Apocalypse Now and Heart of Darkness is one thing. TD and HD is another. It may have given a shout out but to say it is the true meaning is where I want to call for some control. Here an article that draws comparisons between HD and AN. You decide.
AN vs HD

TD is the first show in a long time to truly engross me and my time.. I've rewatched every episode multiple times, I've dreamed about sequences and possible outcomes all the while being amazed with the acting and production...a rare find in today's fast paced entertainment world..

As far as this episode.. No idea what will unfold but I look forward to the ride

Because it's not really a "narrative" at all. It's the other detectives doing interviews. And the interviewees are giving their "truth", while only sharing what they want to share.

For example in E1, the scenes where Rust and Marty go canvassing in the area and interview the chick with glasses, the cajun man, black pastor and Sheriff Tate...all appear to happen after Dora Lange is ID'd on the morning of the second day and after the coroner's office and debriefing scenes in the morning. The interviews actually happen on the first day.

This is just one example. I think the writer might be concealing narrative by mixing things up in the timeline. Marty basically tells the audience what's up:

“Goes on like that. You know the job. You’re looking for narrative. Interrogate witnesses. Parcel evidence. Establish a timeline. And build a story day after day.

Lots of references to timelines so far. But try to build an actual timeline of the season so far and you'll see what I'm talking about.

And by interviewees you mean Rust and Marty, correct? If so, I agree.

Drove by the Beaumont biker bar earlier this week. I forgot it was right on Taylor's bayou. They picked the perfect place to film that scene.

Did anyone catch which basketball game Marty was watching during the scene where they brought up his daughter's school drawing (from E3)? Pretty sure it's LSU but I can't tell who the opponent is...maybe Bama?
