Yep, agree with all that. Cohle basically has lost his mind in some ways for the last 10 years trying to fully solve the case. Maybe he did kill Tuttle.
Also, just watched the HBOGO "inside the episode" bit and they had 2 of them this week. Nic just made a comment about Cohle having beers during the interrogation for 2 reasons: he's a functioning alcoholic and because anything he says in there won't be admissible

They seriously might have to rethink the whole Anthology thing...I could watch these two characters for multiple seasons

ETA: he is setting things in motion for his end game.

This is quickly becoming my favorite show of all time. I worry they can repeat the magic with new stories and cast.

The daughter still has a big part to play I think.
Any theories on the deteriation on Marty and Rust relationship?

some gold from the true detective subreddit
quote:
I missed some of the dialogue there in the last few scenes, but it seems that Rust has been investigating the case this entire time. Billy Tuttle (the tall preacher at the police station and the governor's brother) turned up dead in 2010. Most likely at Rust's hands. Edwin Tuttle (the governor) and his powerful buddies are using the cops to try to turn Hart against Rust so they can shut Rust down.
I'm not totally surprised, as re-watching episode one last night had me thinking of Billy Tuttle as a prime suspect for some sort of involvement. I think the cult involves convincing these vulnerable girls to renounce their lives and surrender themselves. Rust has a quote in episode one about the human race joining hands, refusing to breed, and walking voluntarily into extinction. Dory Lane talked about "becoming a nun" and meeting a king. I think that's all tied into the cult and the murders.
Somehow it's going to tie back around into Hart's daughter. Just the kind of confused, vulnerable youth that this religion will prey on. I think somehow Marty and Rust are going to have to save her.
quote:
Rust has been gathering evidence against the cult and collecting it in his storage container. He knows how dangerous it is to confront these people so he's constantly going off grid and popping up at crime scenes involved with the yellow king and the cult. He probably left that woman he was set up with to protect her from any consequences that he might incur by fricking with these people, after seeing that they could convince that guy to kill himself with a phone call.

Rust discovers that Harts' wife/father-in-law is involved.

The reason I think it's Tuttle is you don't introduce a character like that for no reason.

"You two talk to Rust, well you weren't getting a read on him, he was getting a read on you." Hart still thinks pretty highly of Cohle.

And he's a pretty recognizable actor. Probably commanded enough money to not make him a negligible role

This show still sucks, they haven't gotten anywhere with the storyline and none of the characters are likable.

...yet you're still watching it?

I have no doubt that she gets involved with the cult at this point.
