They said he was seen multiple times in the area of the one LC scene, not in the area of multiple murders.
they showed a picture of him with the crowd with police tape, i believe

Yeah, and rust's car was spotted at the scene before the murder even happened.
Makes no sense.
Makes no sense.

Yes, the LC scene. Never mentioned him being at the scene of multiple murders.

or, you know, don't throw out 500 fricking red herrings and leave the most interesting part of the show out of the resolution
Maybe that's the point. I would imagine that there can be a lot of red herrings when you're looking for a serial killer[s].

And why does that make no sense?

to get on the radar of those LSP guys, he went to at least a couple of the murders (some of which weren't really public knowledge), which means rust was really close to the pattern or had some information network re: the murders

That's why I asked it as a question. I couldn't remember for sure.

wait, what the frick? am I wrong that they got the break in the case from a house painting and guessed that the painters ears were green from said house painting?

what was the point, exactly?
we have one archetypal everyman character (marty) and one insane/non-realistic character (rust)

One of the theories thrown around is that the title of the show refers to the viewer. Maybe that is the point of the red herrings. Like a true detective, you can examine and/or discard the clues as well. Just throwing it out there.

this ending was crap. seriously. so many unanswered questions. so many loose ends. i don't even know where to start.

Such a damn good show. So glad it was set here in Louisiana. Awesome ending.

I loved that so many questions were left unanswered. Made it more real. Life-like. Marty even said, "you can't get 'em all." I mean, in this world nothing is ever solved. I fell for the red herrings and Twin Peaks shite early on. But then I read Pizzolatto saying that the real story is about the relationship between Hart and Cohle, and I stopped letting it be my Lost.
Loved the ending, that Cohle had never really let go of his belief in a higher being.
This was good stuff.
