This is a Gary video, but I've been hearing bits and pieces of this story for a couple of days and this video seems to have it all in one place.

Bottom line, the problem seems to be George. Yes, budget issues are valid, but he has a habit of disagreement followed by lost interest followed by gradual distancing.

On the bright side, The Gullet is claimed to be the most expensive battle ever shot for TV. I hope S3 isn't a fricking disaster.

While you aren't wrong, my immediate and solid inclination is to immediately blame GRRM because, you know...

Their problem with George is complaining about the show in his blogs instead of writing Winds.

From a viewer standpoint, the problem is Max not forking over enough money to fund a full season. It’s only going to get worse for us when they add Dunk & Egg and Aegon’s Conquest to the rotation. They won’t pay for more than one per fiscal year, so expect 3-4 years between seasons of the same show.

Personally, HotD is a very forgettable show. I vaguely remember what happened last season. When the second season started I had to go back and research all that had happened in the first season because I forgot most of it.

Say what you want about the laziness of GRRM when it comes to finishing A Song of Ice and Fire, but the man is usually spot on when it comes to his opinions on the adaptations of his novels. He was adamant that Game of Thrones should have lasted for 10 full seasons of 10 episodes a piece. HBO was willing to give D&D the budget to do just that. However, those two clowns were tired of writing the series so, instead of handing off screenwriting duties to someone else or even a committee of writers, they decided to cut it short and gave us two of the most disappointing seasons of television in the history of the medium.

As far as House of the Dragon is concerned, the first season was solid but absolutely nothing of substance happened in season two. At the end of the first season the two wings of the family were gearing up for war; at the end of the second season the two wings of the family were gearing up for war. It was pointless and did little to move the plot forward.

This shite is already getting out of hand. Claiming that it takes this long to produce shows is bullshite. They do it to keep subscribers from dropping. It's part of their business model now.

if they dont commission the writer's room immediately, there's 30 weeks. Post can take up to a year depending on VFX.

and if this season has massive stunts and FX components, 2-3 years is more in range.

Id actually be more likely to keep my sub if I thought it would have a quicker turnaround.

Spacing it out lets me save the money.

It also forces a ton of resubscribers at one time, which their servers are never prepared for.

GoT seemed to get it done every year, regardless of scale, except at the end when it went to shite.

Nearly all of the blame lies at George’s feet. D&D are adapters, not writers. It should never have been up to them to write the end of the story. I agree they should have handed it off and HBO should have forced their hand, but Ser DoorDash has nobody to blame but himself.

Season 1 was great, season 2 literally nothing happened. I haven't been more disappointed in a season since GoT season 8

That's disingenuous. The end of the season just kind of... stopped... but tons of huge shite happened in S2.
