Who knows, she may play a bigger role in the future as far as hunting down Finn.

I think she is going to turn out to be the Resistance mole in the New Order.

Remember, they knew instantly the station was powering up, and other intel, from someone that had to be pretty dialed in. Plus, she is the one that rechecked Finn and gave him a clean bill of health.

I think people are missing the point of Ren. He's supposed to be a diva. This first movie is pretty much a bunch of kids trying to grow up. If he was supposed to be menacing then he wouldn't have gotten his arse kicked by fenn and Rey. He definitely wouldn't be having the admiral talk shite to him

I don't think Finn ever reported for that evaluation.

I would agree if she hadn't let the stormtroopers mow down all the villagers in the beginning.

And if she's not, the "real" mole allowed for the destruction of an entire star system without intervening.

Sometimes, you have to let shite happen to maintain your cover.

I thought he was physically intimidating, and thus menacing. From the moment he says "search him" in regards to Poe, I was hooked. The body language and demeanor all bolstered that physically intimidating aspect of him. I thought he was great. The two best performances and characters in the movie were driver and Ridley, despite the big on screen presence of Harrison ford and my high expectations for John boyega

I can't say enough good things about those two and their characters

That
s a pretty spectacular review that I largely agree with. I think Poe had more going on than you, but I think you nail your major criticisms of the movie. And of Jurassic World.

Thank you. I thought he was great when he was on the screen, the screen time just want available for anything beyond a general characterization. I really bought his affable personality, even down to his treatment of bb8 as more of a pet than a thing

Pretty sure she said he was supposed to have reported to her unit or whatever. She ordered him to go when she caught him with his helmet off, but he never went.

Carrie Fisher was nowhere near as bad as she could have been. I was very surprised at just how well she did. Considering its Carrie Fisher.

Boyega had a really hard time with Finn early on, and while I think it may be related to the character, there is really no excuse to have such atrocious acting in a movie this big. Though there was somewhat of a nice simile with him finding character as the character is finding himself in the story. Boyega was appreciably better in the third act. The first two he was the worst actor in the movie, worse than Fisher's scenes. But he came around and I think it sets him up nicely for the next 2 kovies.

Absolutely this.

I actually thought Harrison had a hard time with it. You mentioned his jacket being too tight in the OP. My comment in the main thread was that him playing Han early on felt like he was trying to put on an old jacket that didn't quite fit right anymore.

I've been a big Kylo apologist. The scene where he was interrogating Rey was beautifully done for the character. They put a ton of layers in there. Like him taking off his helmet after her monster barb. It's showing his youth and vanity, but with subtlety, not exposition. That might be my favorite scene from the movie.

Also, Ren was just lame as the "villain". Not menacing like Vader at all.

I really think Abrams wrote Kylo how Anakin should have been portrayed in Episode III, incredibly powerful and incredibly torn.

She also put up hardly any resistance when Han, Chewie, and Finn demanded she lower the shields and then threw her in the trash chute. I remember thinking at the time that that was way too easy for a supposed imposing character.

Other than the heavy handed rape angle, I loved that scene

That thought never crossed my mind, probably because I was focused on the layering they were writing into Kylo in that scene.

prior to the last 4 years of social justice over saturation, it would've gone right over my head. It wasn't a big deal, but into the 3rd act Abrams felt the need to remind us that the protagonist is a female.

Didn't ruin the scene by any means, and like you its among my favorite scenes from the movie. My favorite stuff is the first 10 minutes of Rey where it's just the images on screen and the score. The lightsaber duel, Rey kind of winging it with the force, Poe in his X wing at takodana and star killer base. There was a lot to enjoy.

I also liked that someone finally got hit in a shootout with storm troopers

The good: it was absolutely awesome. Perfect reboot for the franchise. Kylo is everything we hoped Anakin would be in the dogshit prequels. A raw powerful untrained unhinged villain. Ruthless and raw. Now he'll be trained by a true Sith Lord.

Rey was great. A solid reboot to the Skywalker line and the force. Poe and Finn were funny solid characters.

The bad: stupid critics and assholes.

She said she did his reconditioning herself. I assumed that's what that meant.
