again, in my imagination...Anakin would be a teenage or young adult pilot type and he'd be trained by obi wan (and we'd see it) and then when they go to do something involving friends or what not, he'd reveal that he is an agent of palpatine who is really a dark jedi (I hate the word "sith")
the opening of the 3rd movie we'd find the jedi are being hunted down and the republic is essentially dead.
I guess any idea is better than what we got
I thought at least the final movie would really showcase how fricking powerful palpatine is, but we never see it...darth vader is such a powerful jedi in the OT that we assume the emperor must be the dark side version of yoda, or perhaps even more powerful. Or that he possesses some kind of ancient magic or something.

Describe this more please. Only thing I am seeing on "Beneath the Dome" is a mockumentary about R2D2.

Lucas initially suggested making the film "a haunted mansion movie", for which Romancing the Stone writer Diane Thomas wrote a script. Spielberg rejected the idea because of the similarity to Poltergeist, which he had co-written and produced.[5] Lucas first introduced the Holy Grail in an idea for the film's prologue, which was to be set in Scotland. He intended the Grail to have a pagan basis, with the rest of the film revolving around a separate Christian artifact in Africa. Spielberg did not care for the Grail idea, which he found too esoteric,[6] even after Lucas suggested giving it healing powers and the ability to grant immortality. In September 1984, Lucas completed an eight-page treatment titled Indiana Jones and the Monkey King, which he soon followed with an 11-page outline. The story saw Indiana battling a ghost in Scotland before finding the Fountain of Youth in Africa.[7]
Holy shite, it's worse than I remembered.

back on the subject of the prequels if I may
I loved in Star Wars and Empire how hands on vader was in pursuing the rebels or skywalker
examples:
he was apart of the assault team in the opening scene
he manned a tie fighter and literally went into the trenches
he lead the assault team into the rebel base on hoth
he personally pursued the millennium falcon, and then on bespin orchestrated everything.
SO, in the prequels there is never a bad guy like that. Palpatine is the phantom menace so we can't have him going around and doing shite because they'll see that he's the bad guy. So what about his minions
PM:
darth maul is there for 2 fights, one of which is brief...I think he has one line in the whole movie
are the 2 racist Asian aliens supposed to be the bad guys? They don't really do anything other than give stupid orders to even more stupid robots
Attack of the good guys:
Bobba Fett? He hires someone else to kill Amidala...lame. He just has a conversation with Kenobi then they have a fight, then he tries to blow him out of the sky above geonosis
Count Dooku? He's not even in the movie until near the end, and he's not really hands on. he is having boring negotiations, then he presides over the arena like an emperor and has a fight at the very end of the movie
Revenge of the shite:
Dooku is killed almost instantly. General Grevious, who like dooku, maul and bobba fett, we know know nothing about just has dialogue until a chase/fight scene with obi wan. Then Vader kills some helpless children and some helpless politicians until fighting Kenobi. Then the emperor, finally revealed has a fight with yoda (and god I hate yoda and the flipping around shite)
so there are 8 bad guys spread across 3 movies, none of them do much beyond talk, none of them are imposing, it just kind of sucks
maybe we wouldn't care how shitty these movies were if there was a bad guy who was doing something, something that we understand.

actually it's Jengo Fett, Boba is his cloned son that appears in Empire and suffers the lamest death in Jedi
The Pickett / Red Letter deconstruction pretty much eviscerates the prequels in every way possible. It really is a brilliant piece of film criticism. The best part in the Phantom Menace is when he asks people to describe characters from Star Wars without saying what they do or how they dress and then doing the same for Phantom Menace.

yeah, he provided the original spark and a team of people (lucas included) took it from there. Gary Kurtz is the co-creator of star wars, period. It wouldn't be recognizeable without him. he wouldn't have finished the first movie without him, and even if he did, it would've been a failure IMO
yes, but that's true of a lot of things. A ton of people helped make Apple what it is, that doesn't mean Steve Jobs wasn't a genius. If it wasn't for Lucas there would be no Star Wars, period.

it's brilliant but not thorough enough. I love that he uses the behind the scenes features to really bolster his claims (true ones) about no one challenging George.
If you watch empire of dreams, there is a segment where Harrison ford is talking about George's directing style and it really sums up everything RLM said about him. He doesn't know how to work with people.
Kurtz, HF, Kershner...they all say the same thing when given the chance to criticize him. "George knows what he wants to see" says it all about the guy...he's an only child crybaby weirdo and when he doesn't get his way he pouts. I actually have a friend exactly like him

I have no problem saying he's a creative genius, but not in the context that he's above criticism
oh you don't like the phantom menace? George lucas made that and he's the genius that is responsible for star wars, IJ, etc.
that's simply not true. Empire of dreams offers a far different picture than the one lucas wanted to show. It shows that he is best when serving as the producer

I A) never said he was above criticism and have blasted him many tines myself with exactly the type of stuff you are saying and B) never said just because someone is a genius doesn't mean they can't make mistakes. I 100% agree that Lucas is great at the big picture stuff and is a is a brilliant entrepreneur. He's not a good director or writer, unfortunately his ego got in the and destroyed the prequels.

Agreed! Get rid of Short Round, make Willie less whiny and overly dramatic, and dial back the "gross out" factor and you have a much improved movie.

The RLM prequel reviews were incredible, both as entertainment and movie criticism.

it may seem like semantics, but i don't think that's accurate. George Lucas created Star Wars, however it is correct to say many other's helped make it work so brilliantly by adding and or changing important aspects of the characters and overall story. Now with some key players, like Kurtz, Kirshner, Harrison Ford etc, it may have been a dismal failure, but it is still a Lucas creation.

I credit the success of Star Wars mainly to John Williams.
