Top Five musicians/bands based on this criteria
If five genres of music were chosen at random which five musicians/bands would be most likely to make good music in those genres?

What about metal bands putting out Lou Reed music? I don't vote Metallica. Iron Maiden maybe?

I'm gonna throw out Rush. I say that simply because of how their sound has evolved throughout the decades.

I've got to listen to Lulu.

I don't hate Coldplay, I just find them incredibly middle of the road. They are the helium of rock bands - totally inert.

Am I the only person who is "meh" on Queen? I don't think they suck or anything, but they really aren't my cup of tea. I have Classic Queen and rarely listen to it. But people absolutely love them.

I dont like Queen at all. Thier music is almost entirely manufactered. Without all the electronics thier music would be unlistenable.

But then again, I hate the Beatles too with the exeption of a few tunes.

I agree with the call on Bowie and I might add Rod Stewart.

Quit being so surprised that some people don't worship the ground that the Beatles walked on.

At the top of this list I would put

After that, I'd go maybe like this:

Van Halen(If you know anything about EVH and DLR, you know this isn't farfetched)
Devo(Anyone who can write songs like "Whip It" and then write the music for "Rugrats" deserves to be on this list )
P Funk
Zappa/Quincy Jones

No Ray Charles or Elvis Presley? Ray can do Country, R&B, Soul, Blues, Jazz, rock and roll, etc... Elvis is the King of Rock and Roll but he started out in Country and he has the voice to be really good at soul, R&B, pop and gospel.

I don't care what other people like but I just can't get into them. I've tried but I just don't like them all that much but it wouldn't surprise me if my opinion changed eventually

Pet Sounds >>>>>>>> Any album that the Beatles put out. I enjoyed listening to almost every song on Pet Sounds. I can't say the same about any of the Beatles Albums. Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club might be the most overrated album of all-time.

To be honest I hated that album for the same reasons that I really enjoy what Uncle Tupelo did. The original Uncle Tupelo would be a good candidate for one of the five bands. And I think Zappa would be pretty damn good at it too.

Rod Stewart.

Had "rock" success in the 70's Footloose and Fancy Free was pretty good.

Had Disco Success as well with stuff like " do ya think i'm sexy"

Some songs even sound "soulfull".

Has had success later in his career with love songs.
