Still solid, but not as whimsical as 1 or deep as 3 and 4.

Here’s my problem with 4: it has no right to exist. Soul shouldn’t have solely been released on Disney+, Toy Story 4 should have been. It’s fine as an epilogue, but it’s a clear cash grab. Toy Story 1 was just the kids room and child torturing toys (which we almost all did to one degree or another), Toy Story 2 deals with the toy store and toy collectors which is an interesting approach, and Toy Story 3 deals with daycare, the toy’s inevitable destination, and truly growing out of toys. I’m sorry save for shorts, there was no where else to take it.

The fair and antique shops? Are you fricking kidding me? Talk about grasping for straws in film concepts. That’s bottom of the barrel. Yeah the movie is good, but I’m quite frankly offended by its existence. Toy Story 3 ended perfectly and the trilogy was basically perfect. You don’t frick with true perfection, particularly a trilogy. Even though it’s not terrible (it’s the funniest of the Toy Stories but clearly the worst), I think it’s very existence is a blight. I own the first 3 original Toy Stories, but not this one, nor will it ever join my collection.

There’s some really good discussion in a thread like this because there are so many right answers. You could probably have a real argument for any one of 7 or 8 Pixar films being the best. And still there are 4 or 5 more that someone will have as his or her favorite. They had such an amazing run for so long. The recent sequels like Monsters U and Toy Story 4 just didn’t seem necessary while the newcomers like Onward and Soul haven’t truly given audiences that connection that they reached for. Moana and Frozen were overall better films than both.

ETA: I think Good Dinosaur was the turning point. It’s production was truly chaotic and a sign that there were issues going on within the company itself that were leaking into the product and that hasn’t stopped.

Moana is definitely better than Soul, but I would put Soul over Frozen. Can’t speak for Onward.

No it’s Cars 2. They’ve only produced two masterpieces since then: Inside Out and Coco. Save for its predecessor where it wasn’t quite as good as the rest of their movies, there had not been a major miss until Cars 2.

You've got to explain the lack of Monster's Inc.

The idea is so original and the execution is almost perfect. They do a great job of shifting the monster world from scary to silly and back to scary when necessary.

Only Pixar voice cast to challenge Toy Story IMO.

And the character design...how do you sneak this motherfricker into a movie for little kids?

I would actually have A Bugs life above both of them

I do like Monster’s Inc. It is a fantastic movie, but sorry the other 10 movies (as well as the original Toy Story) appeal to me more. I don’t have any problems with it, I just don’t think it’s as good as the other Pixar films I listed. It’s wonderfully imaginative and I think it’s really good though. Don’t have anything bad to say about it, but I haven’t gotten anywhere close to tears or pure hilarity in that film. It didn’t produce the emotional reaction I’m looking for in Pixar. The fact that it didn’t make my Top 10 speaks for their library’s quality.

There’s no difference. Good Dinosaur and Cars 2 were in production at the same time. Their ideas were initiated literally months apart. You had one moved up a year (cars 2 to 2011 from 2012) in the schedule and the other pushed back 2 years from 2013 to 2015 because things were going so badly.

If you’re over the age of 16, then you’re quite frankly just stupid if you think that. It’s like saying that Larry the Cable Guy is a better stand up comic than George Carlin whose stand up is poetry, and it’s definitely comparable given Larry is in the movie. There is not a wasted frame in WALL-E while Cars often wallows to the lowest common denominator.

The marketing alone for Monsters University puts it in the elite tier. I would watch a series based on some kids arriving at Monster U, going through the full 4 years, becoming the top scarers in their class, get hired at the Factory all while the events of Monsters Inc are occurring and then having to deal with adjusting to being essentially comedians.

Inc has a great simple message: Positive emotions and feelings will always be more powerful than negative.

I'm going to be different and judge the ones with sequels as a whole franchise instead of listing each individual one.

1. Wall-E
2. Coco
3. The Incredibles 1 and 2
4. Toy Story 1-4
5. Inside Out
6. Monster Inc/ U
7. Ratatouille
8. Finding Nemo/Dory
9. Up
10. Brave

Very hard list to make.

Cars would have made bottom 7-10 somewhere but the sequels lowered it. Same as Finding Nemo would have been higher but not with Dory and also not compared to the sequels of Toy Story, Monster Inc, and Incredibles. Brave is very underrated. If I did a list of last ones out, Bugs Life, Cars, and Onward for me. Onward is kinda weak but I have an older brother so I felt it some.

No way is that film this low.

Years ago, Up was easily my favorite Pixar movie but right now this is my top 10:

1) WALL-E
2) The Incredibles
3) Up
4) toy Story
5) Toy Story 3
6) Ratatouille
7) Coco
8) Monsters Inc
9) Inside Out
10) Toy Story 2

Up has the best opening 15 minutes of all time. Which has always made me overvalue it but overall WALL-E and The Incredibles are better. Still though if I had to judge a movie on the opening scene Up is the GOAT

Fair enough. For me, the movie always gets me when Boo sees Sully scaring in the simulator and when Mike gives Sully the final piece to her door - cry nearly every time at the end.

What's really hooked me the last few times I watched it (have a toddler) is how much detail they put into such a small world. You really only have 3 places: Mike and Sully's apartment, Monster's Inc, and the restaurant. But the world feels so immersive because they have a hundred different jokes hidden in menus and posters and TV shows and names of businesses that build an entire universe outside of the setting.

Biggest drawback is the animation, it's the one Pixar movie that would benefit from a remastering or Special Edition the most.

To be fair, I’m not a dad, and if and when I am I will probably get that emotional result. With Coco I have a personal connection. The day before my grandmother died I was at her house trying to help her and it was clear she was near the end. My grandmother (and she was not senile) begged for her father to be there, who killed himself when she was in her youth. She didn’t forgive him for that action. The Mama Coco “Remember Me” scene broke me identifying with being Miguel and my grandmother being Mama Coco begging for her father to return asking why he abandoned her. That scene emotionally destroys me.

Pretty good list.

I would have Finding Nemo #1 just because of personal reasons surrounding the time that movie came out.

I'm also not as high on Soul as most people I guess. It really did nothing for me emotionally the way most Pixar movies do, and I found myself checking to see how much time was left a lot. I'd probably move it off the list and put the OG Toy Story on there somewhere.

I did like Onward too, but I put it in the same category as like Monster's Inc.

If anyone wants a sequel to WALL-E check out Burn-E. Didn't even know this existed until recently and loved seeing the wall-e story from a different viewpoint.

WALL-E and Incredibles are pretty much tied at #1 for me.

Eta and while not pixar animation I'd put iron giant ahead of both. Perfect story, execution and animation.

I wasn't either after watching it one time.

Having a little boy who loved it I ended up watching it several more times and fell in love with it.

Of course since it came out and especially after covid the human condition is all too real.
