TriStar Pictures has landed worldwide distribution rights to the Mr. Rogers biopic "You Are My Friend," with Tom Hanks attached to play the iconic TV personality.

The film is inspired by a real-life friendship between Fred Rogers and award-winning journalist Tom Junod. In the story, a cynical journalist begrudgingly accepts an assignment to write a profile piece on the beloved icon and finds his perspective on life transformed.

I have always seen Hanks as a modern day Jimmy Stewart. I'd give good money to see Hanks do a remake of "Mr. Hobbs takes a vacation" because he could just nail it.
My only concern with him doing a Mr. Rogers movie is can he do the voice? As odd as this will sound, a lot of the appeal of Mr. Rogers was that quiet and calm voice that he had.
If Mr. Rogers was your surgeon for a difficult surgery... you wouldn't worry if he told it will be OK.

Can't wait for his SEAL scenes.

Bad casting. This role needed to go to an actor with less public personality. This would have been perfect for David Strathairn.

Maybe but in fairness, a movie about the life of Mr. Rogers probably doesn't get made these days without somebody like Tom Hanks attached.

The documentary that's coming out in 2018 is going to be way better than this movie.

I'd love to see Nick Cage or Mark Walberg take a run at it.

Wonder if Tom will go full method and get tatted up or just go the CGI route?

Fred Rogers never served in the military and I don’t know where those rumors started. Even when I was an 0311 in The Corps I heard outlandish tales about “Mr Rogers was a scout sniper with like 80 confirmed kills in Vietnam man. Yea that’s why he wore those long sleeves on his show to cover up all those tats”. I actually believed all that bull shat too. He never even farted near any US military base.
