On the bright side the deleted scenes will be great to use in the inevitable Plinkett Review that ensues.
Wish they’d post their Half in the Bag soon.

Here’s a novel approach to film making - why not start with a great script and then stick to it?
Exactly. This is the core reason why people are hating this movie so much. The script is poorly written, poorly edited, and characters poorly used and not developed.
The fact that Disney has so much stuff riding on the Star Wars Franchise from Theme parks to hotels, etc... I just don’t understand how such an unpolished-bad story could make it past focus groups and management.
It’s like ‘group think’ has set in big time @ Disney & Lucas Film mgmt, w/ zero quality control and different opinions.

Yeah, it’s one of the worst edited movies I’ve ever seen. It’s Frankenstein’s Monster. I could edit a film better than this shite, and suck at it. There will for sure be multiple superior fan edits of this film, so the amount of deleted scenes may be good news for that in the future.

They cut out the Na'vi scenes.
That's the planet formerly named Pandora, and the Na'vi are in hiding (like the ewoks) from the evil corporations but their poor horses had all been captured for sport. The Na'vi help Finn and Chin escape.
Unfortunately, the Na'vi were cut out of the movie due to them triggering body shaming issues.

What a wasteful way to make a movie.
That's usually how most do it.
Eastwood is probably the only director who is like okay, one take...storyboard, lets go. Actor: Sorry, I didn't feel right about my scene there. Eastwood: Who cares, it's in the can we're moving on.
Cimino and Coppalla apparently shot ungodly amount of film for Deer Hunter and Apocolypse Now.
This is back when Directors had unfettered freedom and wasted a lot of money being auteurs.
You can't go over budget by 100% these days like Ciminio did in Heaven's Gate without repurcussions.
But Directors still need to shoot a more film than bare bones, you never know what's going to work.

No, dude. I make movies for a living. Not with budgets like TLJ, but still. Of course there's always scenes or sequences that get cut, but if you're making a narrative feature by just shooting a bunch shite and then figuring it out in editing, that's wasteful filmmaking.
Good for Cimino and Coppola. That's still wasteful filmmaking. And please don't compare Johnson to Coppola.

Let me guess: the deleted scenes feature Kylo Ren being trained by Snoke. I will rage if that is the case.
There is a deleted scene of Luke training Rey, Rey going through trials, and an "emotional scene" between Luke and Rey. I'm serious.
Also, THERE WAS EVEN MORE BORING FINN AND ROSE shite on Snoke's ship.

I enjoyed the movie more than most, but I feel like a small edit with the Leia flying through space thing would greatly improve the movie. I mean if she was going to be in a coma anyway, why go through all that?

He didn’t take enough out IMHO.
By far my biggest complaint. That should have been at max a 90 minute movie. If they cut out 75 minutes of completely unnecessary sequences, I probably would have liked it. There is at least a good 60 minutes that I really enjoyed

Yeah, they shot a lot.
A lot of shite.
