I guess over the holidays this movie has been on tv quite a bit. The whole damn vessel sinking is depressing and it was basically a monkey fricking a football situation. So many errors by all parties involved it’s impossible to list.

Is this about the movie or the actual sinking?

Well since I would hope the movie is close to being historically accurate, I guess you could say the actual sinking (or how the passengers exiting the vessel was so poorly planned) was just a cluster.
So I guess the actual sinking that the movie depicts.

In the movie, it’s Jack and Rose’s fault. The Crow’s nest guys were distracted by Jack and Rose making out on the deck. Their love cost like 2000 lives. What a shitty plot point. :lol;

Billy Zane was the only one that I remember in the movie saving a child's life by making sure she got on a lifeboat.

Bad news, then, baw.

So I guess the actual sinking that the movie depicts.

It wasn't the "cluster" that most portrayals depict. It was a new ship, a new design, new procedures - the crew hadn't been trained with the new, balanced lifeboats and lowered most of them half full (they were designed to be lowered full). That alone cost hundreds of lives.

It was a perfect storm - so to speak - if the sinking had just taken a little longer, say a normal 4 to 6 hours instead of right at 2 or so, plus been in a little more temperate water, say 38 to 45 degrees, the death toll would have been significantly lower.

But, the combination of the lifeboats, protocols, rapid sinking and chilled seawater (about 28 degrees is fatal within 15 to 30 minutes without specialized cold water equipment) almost guaranteed a high death count.

Titanic was a rush job in everything from its construction to its preparation to its maiden voyage. Even the maiden voyage itself had them literally speeding up the ship in ice infested waters, so they could make headlines by reaching the US earlier than expected.

They could've had more lifeboats on the ship, but they chose not to because it made walking on the deck more difficult

It must have been something to live through those days to see such rapid technology progress, but it made the people in charge feel invincible.

saw them testing the lowering and launching of life boats thing

they determined more boats wouldnt have mattered since they launched all they had time to and by the time they couldnt launch any more they still had 2 on board that were never launched.

the mechanisms they had at the time were too slow to have time to evacuate everyone even if they had boats for every person on board

they figured each boat from start to finish takes around 35 minutes to be put in water and leave the ship loaded. and thats in calm orderly situation in a test, so you can imagine how much longer it would take in a panic unorganized situation

Why you so worried about a movie... not like it’s real life.

Same as Armageddon

I've been on a cruise ship.

It really could have been me. But I'm safe everyone.
