Chalamet is definitely a great young actor and seems relatively well grounded as a person. Hope both of those traits grow with him.

but he is very much the blank slate like Gary Oldman, Meryl Streep, etc. I’m not sure if those types of actors get the recognition they deserve. The Academy seems to lean towards powerful individual performances or whomever the new hip thing is.

Between the two of them, they have 4 oscar wins on 24 nominations.

And as far as male lead performances go, the academy tends to lean toward whoever gives a big performance of a real person in a biopic. That describes 13 of the winners this century, though Leo's performance in The Revenant is obviously less Biopic-y.

I'm not saying Chalamet will win an Oscar this weekend, but his performance is very in step with what often wins.

My money is still on Adrien Brody. The foreign voters of the Academy will put him over the top. Bob Dylan has always been an acquired taste.

Idk his sexual orientation, but he's just not very appealing to me. He's not even close to the "greats".

Maybe this movie will change my mind. I do agree he's been force fed to a degree.
