Not saying that’s all fact, just that it’s a possibility
But Lester from The Wire was already there.

I saw it over the weekend and while I really enjoyed it, but those who think it's one of the best movies they've ever seen need to help slow down the hype train. I watched The Invitation that same night and enjoyed that movie more.

The ex husband was inconsistently written, Dixon having no idea about the fire behind him because he had ear buds in was unrealistic. I thought there were some scenes that were written for humor that felt out of place in an otherwise serious movie. I thought the son could have been a very compelling character but he fell flat. And the movies ending didn't feel like an ending.

It was a very good movie, but had the opportunity to be great. Felt like it was left incomplete.

The movie was intentionally either a black comedy/darkly humorous or a dramedy. Part of the problem folks are having is taking this film at face value, instead of imperfectly narrated as intended.

Allow me to introduce you to Martin McDough and also allow me to now ignore your opinion about this movie

Makes me wonder what these folks thought of In Bruges.

Exactly. I went into this film like it was a Coen Bros film akin to Fargo considering a lot of Coen regulars are in here.

Blade Runner 2049 is still my top film of 2017 but Three Billboards is my favorite out of the best picture nominees. The best film that’s not stuffed with SJW propaganda trash

If you think TBB matches In Bruge’s clarity & execution of dark comedy, maybe you’re the one that just isn’t watching it the right way.

The cafe scene between Fiennes & Gleeson alone seals it for me.

If you love Three Billboards unconditionally, cool. I liked it enough to watch twice, but it just didn’t strike me as the high art it’s being regaled as.

That's not what he said at all tho.

The guy he responded to seemed to have no clue of McDoughs style and writing. The things he was complaining about were exactly what makes in Bruges and 3 billboards and all his other films so great

The ongoing trope here is that viewers not gushing over this just don’t know how to appreciate a great film.

That’s what I’m addressing.

I saw it tonight. Good movie with a very meh ending. I'd give it a solid B.

Late to the thread, but just watched it. I thought the darkest hour would win best picture in a runaway until I saw three billboards.

Amazing screenplay and the acting was flawless. Each part was written and acted perfectly. To take such a heavy and weighty topic and roll it up with such ferocious and very human emotion and comedy, simply perfect.

Best movie of the year, best actress, and in the running for best supporting actor.

I just saw it too and was looking for this thread.

I liked it too but think the ending was a little awkward. Not having an on screen resolution doesn't bother me. Just seemed weird they were just going to after that guy.

Though a part of me keeps thinking he still had something to do or knew who did the crime and they'll find out in Idaho. At the very least he's just a one of those psychos who likes to attach themselves to major stories.

Maybe I'm dumb.

Yeah that was me. I didn't say it was the best movie I've ever seen. It was one of the best. Upper echelon for me

The end was foreshadowed throughout the movie and ended so perfectly. I like different movies for what they are, and this is one of the best written movies I have seen in a very long time.

For those that felt let down by the ending, watch it again actively. Pay attention to what is said and isn’t, and how Mildred, Dixon, et al act and react. It was quite masterful.

EDIT: the guy in Idaho is a parallel. He didn’t do it, but he committed a crime and the only way it gets solved is in 5-10 yrs he gets arrested for something and there is a DNA match, or some jailhouse confession or in a bar bragging to his friends (sound familiar?).
