Most of the comments I have heard weren’t about her looks. It was more don’t say something stupid and antagonistic to your fanbase.

This is not what she did.

She answered a question about backlash, almost dismissively, saying it will happen no matter what she does. That is not antagonistic.

She also spouted some bullshite about ownership of women's bodies. It's just feminist drivel that in no way applies to her role.

It's fricking Supergirl, and Alcock was liked by audiences based on her HotD work. None of this was necessary.

Is it okay to think someone doesn’t look right for a role without it being about good/bad, just the overall look? Especially for an iconic character.

"Objectified"... so she's saying if they cast some fat guy with a massive beer belly as Superman, he won't be objectified because he's a dude? Damn, I love male privilege!

I guess her blind feminist eye was looking elsewhere when people complained Ledger wasn't right for the role of Joker or Tom Hardy as Bane or Pattison as Batman or Andrew Garfield as Spiderman...

The Supergirl TV show was absolutely terrible but I can now appreciate that Melissa Benoist looked absolutely perfect for the part.

Melissa was a fine Supergirl but even then then, they had to make Jimmy Olsen black.

Just had to update him and make him 'fresh'.

The problem is the current generation of executives, producers, and actors put too much weight into social media trolls. They are to be ignored. Just produce good content, don't ruin existing IP, and try to get views up on the actual product. Stop making productions and then thinking you should view social media as the only litmus test if it's a good product or not.

Not two post above yours is a meme where someone takes her body and puts Will Poulter's head on it.

Social media is a driver whether you like it or not. It cannot be ignored.

So that means they're taking ownership of her body?

Lame.

I'm saying the physical appearance of an actress matters to male viewers. I'm guilty of it. The interviewer asked her about it; she acknowledged it and brushed it to the side. Yet you all are still crying about it. It's weird.
