I watched this years ago and really enjoyed it. Recently found myself watching bits of it on youtube.

It seems to have held up pretty well overall. I think it was before the days of the great photos from the space based telescope(s). But other than that I found it very watchable.

Good stuff. I like Sagan.

Really excited for the reboot with Neil Degrasse Tyson next year

I didn't know they were rebooting it. That's good news. At least it has potential. Tyson has done a good job in the shows I've seen him in on science/physics subjects. Of course I don't think I've seen him carry a whole show by himself and Sagan set a pretty high bar as a communicator. But it's definitely something I'm going to catch and hopefully they hit a home run.

Carl Sagan was awesome. Loved the herb too.
quote:

The illegality of cannabis is outrageous, an impediment to full utilization of a drug which helps produce the serenity and insight, sensitivity and fellowship so desperately needed in this increasingly mad and dangerous world.

He also had a way with words that, no matter how important you think you are, he could make you feel like a speck of dust. Definitely one of my all time favorite physicists. Billions and billions.....

And the new Cosmos should be quite good with all the new stuff we have since discovered.

There has not been a science-based show that has even approached Cosmos in the 32years since it has aired.

FACT.

About space, I agree with you. But about elementary, everyday science, Bill Nye The Science Guy was an absolutely brilliant show.

Neil deGrasse Tyson can explain some of the more harder theories and make it so anyone can understand while keeping it exciting at the same time. One of my favorite NdGT videos. Looking forward to the new one.

This is the main thing I look for. Just to get an inkling of that general relativity/quantum mechanics/string theory stuff.

One of the producers is Seth McFamilyGuy.

Think this thing is going to be prime time on Fox.

He hosts a show on PBS, NOVA Science Now, which is really well done. Its a little more oriented for a younger crowd. I think he'll be perfect because of his passion for science and the way he tried to spread that passion to others especially younger kids. Check out his interviews on youtube and his podcast, StarTalk Radio. Thay're awesome.

Wow. Did not realize Cosmos was done 32 yrs ago. I watch clips of it, then once played it in the background while I worked on statistics for a final.

Crazy that the public seems less concerned now after the advances than they did then.

Legit. I torrented it a while back and it was great. Sagan was the first to become famous explaining astrophysics and concepts of the universe to the general population. Hawking and the ilk all followed his example.

He also coined the term "billions and billions."
