Thoughts on Masters of the Universe

I think this movie succeeds on the strength of its leading cast.
I think He Man is asked to do a shite load to carry this movie and he generally has the charm to help you gloss over some of the… interesting directorial and editing choices.
While I am not as well versed in the original cartoon as a lot of people, I did still really enjoy it as a fun sword and sorcery movie which is a genre that is extremely lacking.
Leto as Skeletor is pretty good.
The CGI is very very good at times.
Could have done with less screen time for Idris Elba to be honest. He is every trope.
I think I am a little more forgiving of some of the cartoon logic as this is a cartoon. It’s usually a huge pet peeve but some movies are better at disarming that than others.
Some of the editing and scene construction is just really really really odd. There are some blatant examples of things that don’t make sense. Like scenes are being cobbled together. Characters will be in one place than not even in the scene. Characters will have time for long drawn out conversations while in eminent danger. There’s a time where a monster roughly stops attacking for some unknown reason just long enough for an escape attempt. People should die but don’t multiple times. Some of the humor simply doesn’t land and feels like they used an improv take in the movie.
I didn’t like anything with the flying escape scene or the aftermath of said scene and thought it bogged the movie down.
A little too much discussion on theme and what is a man
Overall though, I thought it was fun movie
