I obviously think the original was great. Haven’t seen it in years but it’s a classic.

But this movie really made me happy. Really really enjoyed it. It’s so over the top and beautiful and well designed and fun.

I love flying movies and this simply is the most thrilling flying in a movie I’ve seen in a long time. In IMAX, this was an experience. Felt like a ride

Everything is bright and colorful but feels like it fits into the world.

Not everything works 100% but man, so much of it is so good.

The main character is really good. Toothless is still adorable. The action is absolutely beautiful and while being cartoony still feels thrilling.

I don’t know when the last time I left a theater feeling a sense of energy like that.

Nice I’ll take my kids. Had high hopes for this one and sounds like it’ll deliver.

+1 to everything you said. My oldest used to watch the movies and show quite a bit and our youngest knows nothing about it. But, everyone enjoyed it. Was a good adaptation.

My two oldest loved the cartoon. One of them left the best last year and the other is leaving this fall. We had a blast revisiting the story in live action and in this time of transition it hit all the buttons of nostalgia.

Compared to the original, the remake was drab and muted.

I assume it was intentional to make it more realistic.

Great to hear. I'll definitely get to the theaters for this one. Actually starting a rewatch of all 3 this week.

The animated movies are some of my all time favorites.

I don't have kids so Ill wait for streaming and as someone who used to go to theaters every week for a movie. I have become so disenchanted with the big screen in the last five years.

That said I still love movies and film. I'll be excited to check this out.

the original How to Train Your Dragon Trilogy needs the be in the discussion for the best trilogy of all time.

Fair enough but I will say that a large portion of my enjoyment probably was seeing this in IMAX due to the flight scenes

I really enjoyed, agree with you about the flight scenes in IMAX. They were awesome.

That triumphant flying music gives me goosebumps every time

I thought Astrid was ok, I will say tho that the twins were god awful. My entire theater winced every time those two delivered a line, they were a complete fail. Snotlout sucked too except towards the end.

That was my only gripe, the other kids were casted or acted really bad. Except for Deadpool 2 kid, he was fine

I couldn't see shite in the first sequence of the movie. Way too dark. I had flashbacks of the Battle of Winterfell. After that things were ok.

True story:

After the big scene with Hiccup and Toothless against the big baddie, and Toothless is still smoldering on the ground (before the big reveal) and it is stone quiet in the cinema, my 4-yo grandson says, loudly, "I know what happened."

My daughter took me to this for Father's day. We had seen the original together in a theatre when she was young. She's 28 now, and we both loved this new version. Really well done, and the CGI was fantastic. We were glad to see they stuck pretty close to the original story.

ETA: there were a ton of adults there without kids, which was kind of cool. Our whole row was nothing but adults.

It was really well done. I took my kids. My 18 yo enjoyed it more than my 11 yo.
