As someone who read the books long before HBO announced the series, I found the ending disappointing but I think the herd mentality of "worst ending ever" is overblown. Don't let everyone else sway you before you've watched the show and formed your own opinion. Just watch with an open mind and make your own conclusions. Great books, very good show.

It certainly is. I didn't like the way the final 2 seasons went but it wasnt as bad as people make it out to be. I still enjoyed watching the episodes. The main hate flurry started after some people got access to spoilers before the final season came out.

Every story like this with such a well built world, background, and history has this problem.

Because of the detail, fans know the world and the characters, so if you go beyond what has been written, fans have a pretty good understanding of what should happen.

So movie and tv writers have a problem, because typically, they’re not as big of fans of the story as the fans, so there is no way they can write something that checks all the boxes.

Imagine trying to add a book to the Bible and make a show about it. There’s no way you could write one that is consistent with and connects with all of the strings throughout the whole Bible. Same thing here, but obviously on a smaller scale.

Fans know that and will be happy if it looks like you at least tried. It’s been pointed out for a decade now that it doesn’t seem like they tried very hard in the last few seasons of game of thrones.

Was great until they ran out of book material and had to start coming up with their own ideas towards the end of Season 6.

How so? I'm genuinely curious why you think that. The Dothraki, the dragons, Arya killing the night King?

You mean aside from 5 or 6 cutaways that save characters from hoards of zombies? Danny landing Drogon in the middle of a hoard of zombies for no reason just so Jorah can die? The Red Woman who can now manifest as much fire as she needs to wasting it on torches for the Calvary who’s out front lol. We’ve been told countless times that 100 men could hold Winterfell against 10,000 but they decide to have their entire army outside the caste to start the fight when the Red Woman or the Dragons could’ve just lit a moat of fire so no whites could get near the castle turning the battle into the entire army of the living vs just the Walkers and a 2 on 1 battle with the Dragons. How about putting Bran out in the open so the NK could easily get to him or hiding the women and children in the crypt trapping them with undead Stark zombies or Rhaegal disappearing just because. Don’t get me wrong I’m still missing some things but what I’ve listed alone makes the battle pure stupidity.

One of the main things that kept me hooked on GoT was when they would call out a character, house, event, etc. from before the GoT timeline.. I'd be down the Wikipedia rabbit hole reading about all of this stuff while watching the show.

Then they got into the late seasons and it felt like we got to the top hill of a roller coaster and just went straight down on a slow gradient back to the station
