Theaters That Serve Food During the Movie (Alamo Drafthouse, Canal)

Do you like them? I did this yesterday at the Theaters at Canal and it was a fun experience but I found myself busy trying to cut the food in the dark, eat, etc. and missed parts of the movie being distracted. Having waiters walk in front of you was also a little distracting. I also couldn't switch seats from the obnoxious lady next to me because we had assigned seating. It was definitely over-priced ($12.50 ticket, $2 parking, 19.80 meal)but I wouldn't mind doing it once a year. The screens were also a lot smaller then I expected.

Don't think I would want to eat a full meal but I would really enjoy a few beers during the movie the same way I do at home v

I like it because the seats are so damn comfortable. Every seat in there is a good one too.
Beer is better than a coke.
But it is very expensive to go to a movie that way.

Cinebistro in Atlanta cuts off food orders 10 minutes before start time. Thus most eat before the previews with prob 25% finishing during them.
No waiters walking in front of you during the actual movie.

Drafthouse is nothing like that. I only see movies there now. Regular pricing for tickets, free parking, entrees are around the $10 mark, beer is regular priced, huge screens, and they kick your arse out if you're talking and texting. I can't imagine living somewhere with a regular movie theater anymore.

If my wife and I go to the movies, we go to Alamo. ..if we are taking the kids we go to the regular theatre.

The food was decent but not at all filling for $20 and it was so dark I couldn't see what I was eating.
I got the salami platter and it came with stale crackers that made a lot of noise when I chewed. I'm sure it had to be annoying to those next to me.

i was going to mention this place...very comfortable, and as you mentioned, their handling of the food service is not intrusive at all.

I heard the IPIX in Austin is even nicer than Alamo

Not to mention the salami smell.

The Ipic in Scottsdale is REALLY nice. Most upscale theater I've ever been to. We go there occasionally. It's pricey though. $50 just for the tickets for two(includes plush reclining seats, pillow, blanket, popcorn and wait service). Then you can easily spend another $50 on drinks and food/dessert. However, the drinks are really good and the food is the best of all the dine in theaters we have tried in the area.
Def not a place you can go all the time but it remains our go to whenever we feel like splurging on a nice date night.
Those type of theaters are great for seeing a big movie the day it premieres though. With the assigned seating you don't have to arrive to the theater early for a big movie just so you can get a decent seat. And some of the theaters won't let people under 21 after a certain time so no theater full of annoying teenagers.
Also...with the price being so high, you eliminate a lot of the trash that typically pisses you off at the theater.

cinebistro does this as well...before 6pm, anyone under 21 has to be with a parent/guardian, and after 6pm, they're not admitted at all.

It was really nice seeing the premiere of the final Harry Potter movie and Hunger Games without a bunch of chatty teenagers there or people dressed like wizards
Although we did go there opening weekend for The Great Gatsby and saw a few women dressed as flapper chicks.
Ipic has a really nice bar area as well where you can hang out before/after the movie. Feels like you walked into a nice lounge/bar instead of a movie theater in the lobby area.

It is, but it's also more expensive. I love it though. The food is good and you get to watch the movie in a recliner.
Someone needs to open up something in Baton Rouge that's similar to the Alamo Drafthouse. It would go over like gangbusters.

I went for the beer during the movie. I got meatball sliders the one time I went and wasn't disappointed.

I love Canal Place bc the trash never goes there. The downside is the prices and sometimes peoe order strong smelling food.

I went Canal Place Theater to see Iron Man 3 and it was ok but I won't make it a habit of going there. I read reviews of and one of the people suggested in sitting in the front row to offset the waiters walking in front of the screen. I set in the front row center so it was fine, but I could still see the waiters coming along the sides of people who ordered things on my sides.

The waiters drive me nuts at canal place

Whatever happened to the old theaters in Covington being turned into one of these places? It's been empty since 05.
