Since this is HBO, does that mean we get to see, gay sex scene, regular sex scene, and a bunch of tits?

They referred to the new pope as inexperienced and expected to lead him by the nose but anyone able to to maneuver himself into being a papal candidate and the ultimate winner is a formidable individual.

The politics brought to bear during the papal conclave would make a seasoned Washington player blush.

I did not enjoy the first episode but I think the pope could make it an interesting watch just as long as they don't go, as you said, cheesy.

Would be even more badass if he just stuck with Pope Lenny the 1st.

The entire no smoking in the Vatican scene was awesome.

"Your holiness there's no smoking in here, it was banned by the pope"

"Banned by who?"

Pope John Paul the second"

There is a earwolf podcast called Hollywood Handbook. One episode they read a fake screenplay for a Hollywood blockbuster called Teen Pope. I can't take this show seriously after listening to that podcast

Yeah, I was kind of sitting there wondering what the frick I was watching.

My GF actually made me turn it off. I'l finish it tonight. I actually liked what little bit of Law I saw.

I'm into slow burns, like Tinker Tailor and what not, but from the 25 minutes or so last night, I felt like the show got me nowhere.

I can't give any details without spoilers and it's making me crazy.

I'll just say it's a wonderful, weird little series and I enjoyed it a ton.

It's going to be a love it or hate it with most people - I don't see much middle ground.

Give it a shot. And I'm not Catholic but I do not think this show will offend Catholics at all. Pope Lenny is awesome and devout. ARGH - it's killing me to not be able to give chapter and verse on this show.

I'm excited that it's finally airing here so I can discuss it with people.

I wouldn't listen to him and give it another shot. I think it's going to be incredible.

Maybe it oversteps boundaries for some prude Catholics, but the pilot was excellent.

Episode 2 is tonight. Looks like HBO is going to air new episodes every Sun & Monday night. Episodes 3&4 will be next week.

Is HBO already committed to 2 seasons? I know they've never done it before, but I thought they did with this series. I know they shipped The Knick to Cinemax because Soderbergh wanted a 2 season commitment, but HBO's policy wasn't to renew a series until at least one episode had aired.

It was planned as an 10 (one article said 8) eprisode mini series. Don't know if the crestor wants to do more or not.

Pope Pias XIII was not accepted as the official Pope by the Official Catholic Church. John Paul II was the Pope. Weird person to make a show about. And they based it in 2016 I guess because there is Cherry Coke Zero.

This show is not about a real pope.

It's 100% fiction.

And it's a "Limited Series" AKA only one season like "The Night Of".

I know but there was a real man who went by Pope Pius XIII and he was elected by an offshoot as pope. He was American and lived in Washington D.C. So clearly he was the inspiration for their fictional character.

Pope Pius XIII
