Just got around to watching it. Rourke was amazing. Kind of a depressing movie though.

I can assume that the story of a washed up wrestler would be depressing. Looking forward to watching it myself.

Would you really expect anything uplifting from the dude who brought us Requiem for a Dream?

Rourke did a great job, but Penn's win was legit.

I think he was maybe talking about Rourke's build.

Penn was great but after seeing both I think Rourke should have won.

Popular actor playing a gay man always equals critical acclaim.

Rourke was snubbed. Battling Penn portraying a gay man was like conquering hell with a watergun, so the end result was to be expected.

Besides, it's fricking Hollywood, what'd you think was going to happen?

I thought this movie kicked arse, but I wasn't happy with the ending.

simple made movie, but very effective, probably as close to real life as you can get.

The ending was awesome in my opinion. Just seemed like the perfect way for the guy to go out IMO.

Agreed. There was no other way to end this movie. It was perfect.

Spoilers maybe:

Go out where? Out to eat after the match? Y

Yes, the ending did seem to infer that "his lights went out" literally, a la the Sopranos series ending(allegedly, I don't know because watch that show). I just felt like it was cheap.

Spoilers

I said in another thread any other ending would have reeked of being contrived. The guy lived a chaotic life and there could be no resolution simply because the movie had run its course.

Or popular actor playing a mentally impaired character- just as long as they don't go full retard.

I think it was obvious he was going to die, if he did that last move.

Just finished watching it. I Liked it, that final speech to his fans gave me chills. Rourke is the man.

I finally saw MILK and I think the Wrestler was much better and got robbed at the awards. Rourke's performance > Penn's performance
