Just watched this. Pretty good and realistic of some of the psychological experiments they conducted in the '70s

Basically they took a group of normal volunteers, and at random made some guards, and some prisoners, and documented how they reacted and changed. It's pretty messed up how personalities changed depending whether you were a guard or an inmate.

It's on Netflix now.

I highly recommend watching the documentary with actual footage. And visiting the website with pictures and actual video snippets/interviews with those involved.

It’s one of the textbook cases used in psychology ethics courses/research to show what not to do. Still shocking that he kept his job too.

And people said Americans wouldn’t behave like the Nazis and be cruel to fellow citizens when they were put in a position of authority.

Lesson: People are assholes.

Didn't more info come out of this where many knew this was an experiment and were coached to react a certain way?

They all obviously knew it was an experiment, but I can’t speak as to whether or not they were coached.

I think they pretty much discredited the guy that did this study and he’s not very highly regarded in the psychology world. I think it was a podcast I heard that went into all the shady ways he got his work published and there were a number of flaws in the actual experiment.

Just like The Wave.

The actual experiment vs. movie adaptions.

Phillip Zimbardo was the head of the psychology department at Stanford for over a decade. He was lauded not discredited. He is still a douchebag though

Was all a sham, according to one of the participants.

Zimbardo supposedly pushed the guards to be assholes.
