much more about the trial than the crime. If you’re into trials then it’s super interesting.

I enjoy trial stuff more than the forensic investigation and what not. I will have to give it another try this weekend.

Started off great but was at least 3 episodes too long. It was painful to watch at the end...
So many boring conversations between him and his family.
The victims sister was a little unhinged.

I had to turn this off in the first episode and I went in totally blind on what the crime even was. It was boring as shite.

If you are looking for an entertaining case with good twists and turns and a true whodunnit story this isn’t that doc (at least after episode #3). This is much more a look at building the defense, the legal system, and the impact on his family.

I got to the point where anytime it wasn’t in a court room or the defense lawyer talking, I was just skipping through it

There was an entire episode that the majority of it was them driving down I-10 going towards Hammond

After episode 7 or 8 when they convicted him i had to google the case to figure out why there was another 6 episodes and if it was worth watching.

I got the impression that the French producers just put so much time into this case they figured they had to make it as long as possible.

To be fair I think the original series went until the first trial. Then did more episodes after his appeal for a new trial,. Then they another one with Netflix when he did the Alford plea

Right. People mistake this all the time. Our justice system isn't based upon whether someone committed a crime, it's based upon whether the state and prove without reasonable doubt that someone committed a crime. "Well, it had to be him because we can't explain it any other way" doesn't fly.

She just looked like she barely wanted to be there and had no idea what she was talking about prolly pissed that she has to defend all these actions made by a dirty DA who is now a Judge

I listened to a true crime podcast that had an episode focus on a guy who was convicted of murdering his wife when she was discovered at the base of the stairs with her head bashed in. The podcast focused on a theory about a potential Owl suspect who might have attacked her and actually caused the death.

Is that the same as the case in this show?

Him and the chick DA had such thick accents I thought they were faking it at times

The girl talking about his sexuality to the jury felt straight out of the 1950s she sounded like the teacher from Varisty Blues

Which was, after all, the entire point of why the DA got that stuff into the court room. They knew for a fact that showing photos of hard core gay porn and having a male prostitute come into the court room and essentially explain that gay sex is "anal sex" was going to turn off most of the jury. The ADA which questioned the male prostitute practically made vomiting sounds while rolling her eyes at the jurors as he answered her questions.

As for the doc, my wife and I just finished binging the whole thing last night...really enjoyed it. And like someone else said, his defense attorney was absolutely outstanding.

On different note, did anyone else think David Rudolf sounded remarkably like Nick Saban! I thought their voice and speech patterns were eerily similar.

Clip from The Staircase for it may contain some spoilers from the defense.
