Anyone know the latest on the feud between Eastwood and Spike Lee? As you probably already know Spike Lee publicly crticized Eastwood for not casting any African-Americans in Letters from Iwo Jima or Flags of Our Fathers stating that Eastwood degraded the African-americans who fought for this country in WW2. This caused Eastwood to adjust the story line in Gran Torino placing Koreans as the controversial neighbors rather than African-Americans. I think both are talented men who need to unite for a film.

I don't see how anybody can think that Spike Lee is anywhere near as talented as Clint Eastwood.

I don't think he has near the talent of Eastwood, but Inside Man was good and showed Spike does have some talent.

Does Spike Lee know that African-Americans really didn't do that much fighting in WW2? They were mainly involved in upkeep of tanks, trucks, planes, etc. I don't know where he got his info from, but mine comes straight from the mouth of a veteran that was in Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and Saipan.

I'd love to see the two just fight it out and have Clint strangle that whiny piece of crap.

I'm not defending Spike Lee because I def don't like him, but you should have asked that veteran the reason why blacks didn't fight, they weren't allowed in most cases because of racism, that is why they were assigned those other duties you listed, but they were small groups in some cases that were pressed or forced white leaders in those cases to make the decision to use them to fight because their white counterparts had suffered heavy casualties, the group called the Tuskgee Airmen being one of them.

oh and I might add they fought with passion and distinction, I guess to prove to their whitecounterparts that they were up to the task, me being a former military man appreciates that.

shite, Tiger could have been cast in Gran Torino, he could have been the gang leader that Clint didn't like, he woulda fit in with his oriental clan while dabbing the movie with a splash of black edge.

As an actor? He's not.

As a director? Spike blows Eastwood out of the water. Were it not for Mystic River, it wouldn't even be close to a contest.

O yeah. There is no question that race played a role in the situation. There is also no doubt that they did a little fighting, and should have been allowed to do more.

I just think that there really wasn't that much of a reason to cast them because they really weren't that visible on the front lines. It would have taken away from the authenticity if there was a noticeably high number of black African Americans in the war movies... Or if the ratio of black:white soldiers was nowhere near the truth.
