How good are these shows?
Im being told to watch both, I've heard both are incredible.
Im not trolling, I just want to know if its worth my money to buy the first season of each.

Did u see both shows? I can't comment on the wire bc I didn't watch it, but to just poo poo the shield is just poor unless you can back it up with some data/specific obs.

I need to watch the Wire.
But pretty much anyone who's seen it thinks it's incredible.
The Shield is perhaps the best and most consistent show I've ever seen.
The fact that it was on FX still blows me away.

Haven't seen the wire. The Shield was unlike anything I was watching on basic cable when it premiered and the first episode had me hooked. Cletus Van Damme FTMFW.

Both fantastic. The Wire is my all time favorite, The Shield is borderline top 5. The Shield is the more accessible show. Probably the best at balancing episode to episode excitement with season long story arcs.

The Wire is number 1 in my book, all 5 seasons leave you wanting more.
I also like the Shield, top 5, along with West Wing(#2) Rescue Me, and Dead Wood.

The Wire is better IMO. It was far more realistic.
I also like The Shield. It is a bit more fast paced but also more far fetched.

If you haven't seen the Shield, watch the pilot and I guarantee you will watch the next episode soon thereafter.
Both shows are as good as it gets on TV. The fact that the Shield was able to be so powerful on basic cable is a testament to its lasting power.
