the shield is definitely more outlandish but pretty intense for a show not on a pay channel. to answer your question, both are worth watching, great characters, I like the wire's storylines better but they have their own styles. wire is top 5 for me, shield top 15.

He's a "problem solver" and counter-security consultant for any shithead willing to pay his price. We didn't know it (because he never talked) but Ronnie comes from a wealthy family and they want revenge. They have hired an assasin (Vincent Kartheiser) to hunt him down and kill him.

Corrin is getting railed by Dutch.

Or he's doing that hot lawyer from the last episode.

Dutch was my favorite character.
So awesome.

I wonder if Ronnie ever served any time though.

I've never met anyone who dislikes the wire after seeing more than two episodes of it. It can be difficult to get started because it's so overwhelming, but if you give it three episodes you're certain to be hooked. I was and so was everyone else I've ever known that watched it. It's imperative that you give it more than one episode, though. The pilot can be underwhelming because of the hype that people give the show.

Why

Just from watching previews and having watched one episode, I don't think I would like it

I just don't find the premise of "badass", rouge cops that interesting

That's really it. No other reason

Give it a shot, it's got some pretty memorable parts and an awesome finale.

The Shield was good, but its not even close to being in the same class as The Wire. But really, not a whole lot is in the same class with The Wire. The Wire is perfection.

The Shield is definitely worth watching though.

Wish I could watch them both for the first time again.

I just got finished watching The Wire, after several people suggested it on here. It's pretty good and entertaining.

Both are great series. You'll get sucked into the Shield pretty quickly. It's my recollection that it took a couple or three episodes of the Wire before things really start happening. So, don't give up too soon. But, the Wire is the better series, in my opinion.

the wire = caviar

the shield = a cop show that came on basic cable

I love The Wire but that is very unfair to The Shield. The Shield was a great show. Had one of the greatest finales ever. Great cast. Groundbreaking for basic cable. Seriously, it laid the ground work for FX, which has brought us a host of good to great dramas. I would argue it helped set up the business model for AMC as well. The Shield is a good and important show.

Your comment is dead on, but I think the original was a joke meant to stir the pot.

There is a LOT more to it than that. It's not a one trick pony about badass cops
