I just finished that episode and thought it was the best one yet.

I have never been a huge fan of graphic novels. The Watchmen is the only one I have read, and I did so after seeing the film. But I read American Gods and decided that Neil Gaiman can tell one Hell of a story.

I watched and enjoyed the Lucifer television series. I did not see the American Gods series and may not do so, since it was apparently canceled before it reached its conclusion.

With that background, I have been looking forward to the arrival of this series eagerly. In truth, the drama about the casting and the changes in a few characters has made it sound even more interesting, but I would have watched it anyway thanks to Gaiman.

I am watching the sixth episode as I type, and the series has been utterly fascinating so far. The first episode was world-building and a bit slow, but each episode has gotten better and better.

The diner episode was utterly bizarre, but enthralling, and I thought it would be hard to beat. But then I watched the Immortal Pub episode, which topped it.

I will not be leaving the TV for the next four hours.

All the whining about homosexuality is overblown. Yes, there are lots of gay characters, but the stories have not been ABOUT their sex lives. Thus far, any of the gay characters could have been straight, and it would not have changed the story much, if at all.

More after another four episodes.

Just finished the 2nd episode. Pretty good so far and pretty true to the source.

I read an article about Gaiman wanting Morpheus' actor to have the right voice. This dudes voice is perfect. No idea who he is but he makes a pretty good dream. The Corinthian is cast really well as well. He is spot on imo.

I'm not a huge graphic novel fan either, this was about as graphic as I ever cared to read. I'm glad they toned down Cain and Abel. Cain's violence was just brutal in the novels and hard to take as a joke. I was curious as to how they were going to do that and they've done a decent job with it.

I listened to the audible version and the story was wild. The diner scene was one of the most fricked up things I’ve listened to.

The show is good. It can be jarring to the casual viewer but then again I think it adds to the whole thing. Dreams are like that.

The gay stuff doesn’t bother me because it doesn’t take away from the story.

It’s way better than I thought it would be. Could use some boost on the acting side but overall worth a watch. The diner scene was considerably tamer for the tv adaptation.

You forgot to mention “globohomo” and to complain about the miscegenation and the number of non-White characters.

Do you people even have a clue of the caricature that you are, to the sane world?

A female playing an angelic being with no defined sex is destabilizing America? Is America really so weak?

Or are you a joke of a stereotype who knows nothing about the character in question? I know which is more likely.

Yep. The series in itself was probably the weirdest thing I've ever read. Really good, but disturbingly weird. And the diner scene was by far the most messed up. That episode started to play and he walks in the diner and I'm like nope, I ain't mentally prepared for this on a lazy Sunday

I love the guy earlier in the thread saying this showed ruined some of his childhood. I'm thinking what the hell kind of child reads this? I had Sandlot on repeat, not reading some crazy novel that jacked me up as an adult

Good to hear honestly. I did wish the contest would have been Dream vs the demon instead of vs Lucifer. Weakens Lucifers character a bit knowing Dream can beat her even in a weakened state. Having him struggle vs just the demon shows how weakened Dream actually was without his items. Now it's like ok, he can defeat anybody even when he's not full strength.

Dr. Dee was the guy in the diner in the novel, was his name actually John? Or is this just a completely new character, I can't remember.

(Cont’d)

Finished the series. 8/10 overall, with LOTS of “9” moments and a few “10s.”

Who CARES that Lucian became Lucienne or that we had Johanna Constantine rather than John. No change in the story AT ALL.

Gwendolyn Christie NAILED the Lucifer character.

Gaiman is one Hell of a storyteller, and Netflix did a GREAT job adapting his stories.

I'm pretty sure its the same character. Just with the TV show they give him a little more reasoning than "lets see what this ruby can do"

I remember the chaos going on outside of the diner being more prevalent as well. Not just a news clip and then at the end being like "oh wow the world got fricked up while he was in there, itll fix itself tomorrow."

yeah he's full of shite if he was reading this as a kid. his childhood was already destroyed and had nothing to do with a TV adaptation of the original book.

I'm always amazed at this site. People get upset over the slightest changes in things. I don't think the changes did much to the original story.

Hob was still my favorite.

I don’t want to post any spoilers, but the cereal convention was absolutely wild. The notion that the demographic in attendance came into being as a result of a supernatural Nightmare coming to Earth is just trippy.

I liked both that character and that episode.

Yeah, SOME of the complaints fall into that category. Others are pure homophobia.

Watched episodes 5 and 6 last night. I'm glad they tones down the diner scene but you still got the wtf is going on vibe.

Episode 6 was probably my favorite so far. That was my favorite section of the comics and they did a nice job with it. Hob was great.

I wish when Dream was originally captured they would have had Dream say what he did in the comics when they were talking about actually trying to capture Death. He said something like "you better be glad you didn't capture Death." It was something simple like that. But that had you in the back of your mind thinking about how bad Death probably was. Then you have this almost shocker type moment when you realize that Death is actually the nice one. When I listened to the audio book and they cut back to the scene where the two of them return to the park with the kids playing soccer, and you hear the tires screech and crash and you realize why she was there in the first place, that was pretty heavy. Just great writing.

I finished it over the weekend. I liked it overall. I feel like there was a lull half way through but I powered through and it was good. I will probably watch the second season but only because I'm a sucker for DC comics.

I do kinda care about that.

Both are in the comic, so it does alter the story. Especially going forward.

The reason John isn't in the series had nothing to do with "wokeness" or anything. They couldn't get the rights to the character

John Constantine can only be played by Matt Ryan.

God I hate thinking about how that series was cancelled after one season.

He's the perfect John Constantine.

I read an article about Reeves wanting to do a Constantine sequel and the IO rights being really fricked.

Which may be the issue here.

There is a JJ Abrams show coming up on HBO

Plus Matt Ryan was playing the character in Legends of Tomorrow, while Sandman was filming.

Constantine is an awesome character, perfect for film. Abrams was supposed to be working on some JL dark films, but all that's been likely shelved by the new boss.

Yeah but I likes Joanne in the show.

2.5 episodes in. Being slowed down by the wife. But I’m really enjoying it so far.

I think The guy playing dream is doing a great job of only emoting through his eyes and clenched jaw.
