Also think The Prestige is his best film. If I hadn't seen it, had no idea who Nolan was, and somebody told me the plot I would have laughed and said "hard pass". I think it's incredible in every way and is a much better movie than Nolan's big showy stuff like Inception and Interstellar

I liked the Prestige, and it is a great film, however if we’re going by which film is more enjoyable to watch, then I’d have to put The Dark Night above it and Inception at the top of my list.

Objectively Prestige is probably a better film, but I didn’t find it as entertaining as others. It didn’t help that the other magician movie, The Illusionist, came out at about the same time.

I see no one has voted for Interstellar yet.

So In the Prestige is Fallon his birth twin or Clone from Tesla? That was my only question.

Anyone ever watched the movie in chronological order?
The DVD I have of Memento has a cut of the movie in chronological order. It was a fun watch and helped me wrap my brain around the plot a bit better.

Memento is Nolan's best film, particularly for a first time viewing, but The Prestige (and Inception) are far more rewatchable.

The Christopher Priest novel (also entitled "The Prestige") from which the screenplay was adapted by the Nolan brothers, is also worth checking out. The novel's story structure is similar, but the plot shifts are quite different. It makes the novel a distinctly enjoyable experience for fans of the movie.

I believe The Prestige is Nolan's only literary adaptation. I know the Insomnia script was written by others. And of course the Dark Night Trilogy is based on comics and graphic novels.

Memento, Inception, and The Prestige are my favorite Nolan movies. Hard to separate the three.

Birth twin. He was pissed cause he couldn’t figure out how Jackmans character was pulling off the transporting man trick. If he knew the clone thing worked he would have known how

Inception is by far more ambitious and cemented Nolan as the auteur blockbuster director. I remember leaving the theater thrilled by it.

The Prestige is great, but it's a little too esoteric and the lead characters are just not likeable people. I was as inspired by it as I was Memento, Insomnia, and Batman Begins.

Bale's acting is on another level in Prestige.
He knows which twin he is playing in each scene. There are differences in accent, mood of character, and personality.
But they are subtle enough that one cannot obviously tell them apart.

Loved Jackman in this as well.

Makes sense, which is why he is under the stage and gets hemmed for the murder of the clone. I always wondered bc his key word was Tesla. He basically said it was the key to his trick but he also mentions it’s just the key word in his diary.

Bales character knew Jackman would go meet with Tesla to try and figure it out and he figured it would just be a huge waste of time

I’m partial to Momento because I had no idea who Nolan was and had never heard about the movie till a girl I was trying to get with loaned me the DVD. She said it was her fav movie. I was blown away. I had never seen anything like it.

I also realize that that girl was way too intelligent for me.

Memento
Inception
Dark knight
Interstellar
Insomnia are better but that is not a knock against Chris. He is the second best to do it vs quinton to do it in my life time and I look toward to what he does next.

I’ve never thought of it that way before. You’re suggesting that Tesla had actually cloned Bale’s character and they just kept it secret.

Interesting...

I like it. Going to have to rewatch and see if that’s possible within the confines of movie.

The Prestige is an incredible film. You can watch it 10 times and still pick up new things.

I have no problem rating it as Nolan’s best.

I've always liked Insommnia. Crazy Robin Williams and So Pachino. Definitely had flaws but the Alaska setting with constant daylight brought a great atmosphere to the film. Actually felt a little of the insomnia Pachino went through. I've always felt it was way underrated as a Nolan film.

Not disagreeing with OP on Prestige being his best, but damn I love Insomnia.

For me, it was the first look at what an incredible talent he was. Memento could have easily been a Sixth Sense type gimmick had he not been able to follow it up with just straight storytelling, but he knocked it out of the park with Insomnia.

It was also a much better display of the visual masterpieces that we’ve come to know and expect from him. Insomnia is a hauntingly beautiful film, and one of his most visually captivating, which is really saying something.

Love Nolan threads that don’t focus on TDK

I picked up on this as well on later re-watches. It's crazy how I can now tell which twin is on screen, but my wife who has only seen it about 3 times cannot.

Props to Bale
