I kept thinking where is this show going? Is it supposed to be funny or is this just bad?

This was my experience as well. I got rid of my cable this week, so I'll need to get an antennae if I want to continue watching it. I'm still on the fence about it.

I assumed this was a comedy. If it's not a comedy, I'm not interested. Doesn't look or sound serious enough to be a compelling sci fi show.

It was cringe worthy imo. My wife and I were laughing it was so bad at points.

I finally watched it last night. I'll definitely watch the next episode or two, at least.

It is amazing this got approved by the network. It does seem custom made for a small audience, but some of us might fit into that small audience.

It's clearly a vanity project by McFarland that shows how much clout he's gotten at Fox. At best this is a poor imitation of TNG, at worst it's an insult to TNG. I couldnt make it past this last commercial break.

I'm not sure it's either of those. Just a vanity project for someone with a weird sense of humor who grew up a Star Trek fan. As you say, it's a measure of Seth's clout with Fox.

I agree. I don't think it's an insult. From what I understand, McFarland is a big fan of ST.

Now, whether it is an imitation, an homage, a light spoof or what is kind of a matter of semantics.

I've heard the comments about it not being a "comedy" but it was clearly meant to be humorous to some degree. So, I'll judge it in that vein.

I'm actually digging this show.

I normally hate network stuff but this is not bad if you like sci fi and accept what it is.

Not exactly glowing praise.

I caught a few minutes of it for the first time this week. Is it written by a 12 y/o?

Just watched Ep 2. It's just straight up Star Trek with a lighter heart and American pop culture references - which I guess Seth can't resist.

If it was a new Star Trek series, I might not mind it so much, but only because I have loyalty to Star Trek. But it's still banal and just kind of boring.

I think it'll be funny to people who watched way too much Star Trek growing up.

But this board has gotten so preemptively negative the lately that I take reviews here with a huge grain of salt. Anyone successful has sold out and gotten terrible.

I'm not the biggest MacFarlane fan, but I'm a huge ST fan and I was really looking forward to this show. The previews looked great. The premiere, not so much.

Episode 3 and it's obvious that it's meant to be more serious than comedic.

It's already taken on a few social problems we are dealing with today.

She can save this show... if she gets naked.

It's alright. Mindless entertainment if your not looking to pay that much attention. Which is sometimes needed.

In this case though, it might be to expensive to make in the end. The budget has to be astronomical for a television show. Those don't normally stick around.
