i havent seen it yet, but no movie really shows the power of the Empire. Not millions of stormtroopers, thousands of ships, COD AW weapons

Ironic that you used a line from the movie that epitomizes the perfect balance between a dark tone and fun stuff that makes Star Wars so great. Obviously a bad guy in a movie is a dark character but that doesn't mean the movie he is in real dark. Voldemort is a dark character but I do t think a Harry Potter movie about Voldemort murdering everyone would be that great. A movie just about Vader killing people could also easily be terrible. Revenge of the Sith had stuff like that and th movie sucked. Just watch the Piinkett RotS review about why a super dark Star Wars movie didn't really work.

You're losing me here. How does Vader destroying someone balance the dark and fun stuff exactly? I was showing an evil character since you tried to justify a dark wolverine movie because wolverine is a dark character.

That is my entire point. You brought up Wolverine as a dark character, but he has never been in a dark movie, though he is a dark character. They are going that route with Logan, plus making it R, and that is what a lot of Star Wars fans want.

I've seen it. It is pretty silly. The shortcomings of that movie were not because it was dark. Not even close. We have never had a true dark Star Wars movie. Arguing that it won't work when it has never been done is just silly.

Also I thought the death troopers were kind of lame. Nothing different than regular stormtroopers. Almost like Al Sharpton stepped in and said some of them gotta be black, so that's what they did, lol

I loved it but my main issue was that I felt it had too much of a cliffhanger ending.

liked it a lot. slow at first due to character development.

the first view of vader was awesome and unexpected. the pun he dropped was a little on the goofy side, but didn't distract too much from him being a complete badass.

i personally loved the line "does he look like a killer?". once the robot bought the farm it was a nice reminder that this movie will have no survivors.

to me, right up there with the ot

I saw it today. I liked it! I hated everything about Episodes 1-3, TFA was a little better (as in close to Episodes 4-6), and the story/character development/etc. of this one was even closer. It exceeded my expectations. I'd dare say it made the Empire more detailed than the original trilogy, where they seemed more blurred and almost idiotic.

There ever a few things that I could nitpick on:

1. WTF happened to the opening screen crawl and song? And I agree that the score was not good at all.
2. There were all kind of different type stormtroopers in this one. It makes it a little hard to believe that they all of a sudden vanished if we are to pretend that Episode 4 happens immediately after the end of the movie.
3. The same thing above applies to the fighters on both sides. Should have kept it simple with the ships we already knew.

Just nitpicking.

Great movie. The CGI was a bit cheesy, but can be overlooked for the value it adds. The last seen with Vader was incredible, and made the movie worth it on its own.

Yeah we didn't need to see CGI Leia at that part. I agree.

Kathleen Kennedy established months ago that only Saga movies would have the opening crawl/SW theme

You don't see Snowtroopers and Biker Scouts in Episode IV, and yet you buy their presence in their respective movies.

Right, but this movie is basically the same time as ANH. They introduced imperial guard storm troopers that just randomly disappear. This isn't special terrain storm troopers that take place in movies at least a year apart.

On the one hand, that was one of the best scenes in all of Star Wars. On the other, it made me angry because episode 3 should have been full of this type of scene. Instead we got more whiny Anakin.

Still digesting it from last night...like a Sarlacc.

The absence of the opening crawl helped me to remember it was "Star Wars Lite" and not an Episode film. That mindset led me to be pleasantly surprised with it, and happy as it was MUCH more than a corporate Christmas money-grab. I will see it again, for sure.

The Vader unleashing Hell scene was amazing (even though I spoiled it for myself) I could hear wimpy Anakin's voice: "...and I slaughtered them like animals"

He sure as frick did.

Yeah, you had Anakin wipe out all the separatists, but I wanted to see more of him fighting all the jedi in the temple.

Exactly.

Like I said, same thing with some of the spaceships too.

We didn't. Us fanboy adults, I mean. But I'm sure a heated discussion occurred and reoccurred during editing about her, and I bet "the kiddies won't know it's her voice" argument won in the end.

I would've kept the camera on him, with maybe a female hand in view, and cut it after an off-camera "Hope."

But so be it. Feed the kids, they feed the machine.

Only problem I had with some of the CGI is thought some of the ships looked really bad. Mainly just the small ones they'd get in that would take off from the planet.
