I think we can finally move away from the Reeve version of Superman now. Smallville was a good step in the right direction but was still tying itself to the Reeve universe while having one foot in the real world of the here and now.

I would say thanks to Smallville we can now transition to a modern Superman for the here and now that will be the benchmark for all other supes in the future both comic and movie. No more campiness , this set a new tone and a different origin story.

Also I want to see Faora again, something about her.

I would even go to say that now Lex Luthor have a good reason to try and kill superman as look at all the destruction those Kryptonians do to the planet earth and pretty much, the HUmans race is only alive because Superman is not evil. Lex have always been about humanity first no matter the cost. None of that real estate bullcrap.

I don't think we'll ever see this in this franchise. Ever.

Terrance Stamp was a shitty version of Zod. This version was easily better.

OK. Now I know to ignore all your posts on this subject

Haven't had time to read this thread but wanted to say this movie was badass. No idea what the negative reviews are about with this movie.

Yeah, I'd just like to echo this. Not as good as I hoped it would be, nor a great movie, but as someone who generally agrees with critics, they are way off on this one. Still a very entertaining, interesting, and unique take on Superman.

just got in from watching it...and that movie was fricking badass...the way they back storied was well played, Joreel's role was great, it was action packed from start to finish. Awesome flick

I know everyone caught the tanker trucks in the fight scene, but who caught the fact that it was a LexCorp 18 wheeler that dropped Clark off back at his mom's house right after he found out who he was?

Already brought that up.

Also brought up the satellite saying Wayne Enterprises on it too.

I think that is exactly where they are heading. Metropolis is in ruin, and Lex will be the villain that rises out of that.

Or maybe Lex is the guy that swoops in to rebuild and thinks it will buy him some respect when in reality it'll just get him a thank you while the public is in love with Superman.

Never underestimate a rich man with ego problems.

I watched the original version with Reeves today an thought it was a lot slower than this one

I actually recommend anyone who still harbors romantic feelings about the 1978 movie to do this while it's running this month on cable. Like most in my age bracket (43) I saw and loved those first 2 movies as a kid. But...after having watched them both again for the first time in a decade or more, I can tell you that my love for them was solely based on Reeve's portrayal of Supes coupled with John Williams' score.

That's all.

It takes nearly an hour in the first movie to even see an adult Clark, and we only see Superman in costume a few times, and half of THAT time is spent flying around Metropolis smiling at Lois while she reads/raps song lyrics to the Williams' love song wondering if he can read her mind. Throw in a cringe worthy version of Lex ( he's living in the fricking subway with a guy who is essentially retarded and some woman) who manage to TWICE fool the US Military long enough for one of them to frick with a ballistic missile while transporting in on the highway and that about sums up the Donner film.

There's a lot more to the 1978 Superman movie than Reeve and the memorable Williams' theme. And most of it sucks.

*eyes bleadily*

For some reason I thought you closer to my own age in all of the evolution threads.

Now I see you are an old shite.

Now I feel a little older than I did before, in the middle of my self image adjustment out of the college kid bracket.

frick you for that

Michael Fassbender or Daniel Day-Lewis would be amazing, but neither would do it

Realistic choices would be Mark Strong or Michael C. Hall (Dexter)

I would say Lex Luthor should be played by Mickey Rourke! I kid I kid!!! I think a good lux luthor could be portrayed by Bradly Cooper or Eric Bana.
