Haven't had time to read this thread but wanted to say this movie was badass. No idea what the negative reviews are about with this movie.
Yeah, I'd just like to echo this. Not as good as I hoped it would be, nor a great movie, but as someone who generally agrees with critics, they are way off on this one. Still a very entertaining, interesting, and unique take on Superman.

People will have a very strong connection to a very specific Superman. Every generation has a TV or movie Superman that was a large influence on the pop culture of their childhood. You had some people going into Spider-Man and X-Men with preconceived notions, but with Superman, almost everyone has a specific Superman in mind.

I def have mixed feelings about the movie. Just watched it and thought it was good. Nothing like the Christopher Reeve movies. It seemed more like Avengers/Thor mixed together. I think they tried to capture some of those "Superman" moments through flashbacks. Overall I thought it was good. And interesting they tried to take the movie somewhere else. Also Amy Adams was hot in this movie. Although she has more of a Lonna Lang look. Not Lois Lane.

Agreed. I grew up with the Chris reeve movies

Just got back an hour ago. The definitive superman film
DC>>>>>>>>>>Marvel
A sci fi b movie with superman :JIMP:
Michael Shannon steals the show. The next movie will have to be toned down as far as scale, but this series looks to be headed for greatness

Uh no. He was good, not great. Zod was a man of power who knew he had the power. Men with real power don't have to constantly yell to assert themselves. That's why Zod from Superman 2 NAILED the part.
HC stole the show as Superman though.

Henry Cahill will join reeve, Downey as best superhero casting

I enjoyed the fact that the movie didn't involve kryptonite or dopey Clark Kent.

That's not a fair comparison.
Superman 2's Zod was just an outcast.
MoS's Zod was desperate to rebuild Krypton and we watched him degrade from the quiet assurance you meationed to the rage and despair at the end.
Also, for a significant portion of Zod's intro in 2, he had no equal.
He literally couldn't be touched.

Terrance Stamp was a shitty version of Zod. This version was easily better. A cold, calculating bad motherfricker who did his duties to his race.

that is nonsense. Terrance Stamp was fantastic. He was held back by the time period in which that movie was made. He couldn't be destructive like he was in MOS, but still, his performance was awesome

I will admit the first 5 minutes had me concerned. Heavy CGi and bad rear screen projection had it looking like your typical summer turd, but once zod arrived at Jor-Els everything was fine.

Man, what a dog of a movie. I had to check my ticket stub after the movie to make sure it didn't really say Transformers on it.

Great movie. I really like how they portrayed Superman.

I know everyone caught the tanker trucks in the fight scene, but who caught the fact that it was a LexCorp 18 wheeler that dropped Clark off back at his mom's house right after he found out who he was?

Seriously...
TS vs CS as Zod is really no comparison because their portrayals (as written) were vastly different. They were each great Zods in their respective iterations of Superman.
Oh...and MoS was fricking awesome.
Loved the flashbacks (as did my 12 y/o son, who has seen both the 1978 version (DVD) and Superman Returns (in theatre)). Added depth to the story nicely, without completely retreading the origins on Earth (I liked the expansion of the Krypton origins).
Amy Adams was a solid LL, although, I agree with those that have said Erica Durrance owns that role. However, TPTB decided to completely sever ties to all prior actors (for better or worse).
I have seen all of the Superman movies in the theatre since 1978 and the first one (Donner) blew me away when I was 10. S2 was very good as well and I liked Superman Returns (though can understand why some did not). But IMHO, MoS blows them all away.

This.
As a child, i didnt understand all the romance and flirting that Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder were doing. This was a super hero movie, and it looked like your typical soap opera (i think guiding light and Days of our lives was hot back then)
Seemed to me that they finally got rid of those elements and gave us a superhero.
