Although he has sworn off drinking, cussing and fighting, ultimately it is his use of fowl language that saves the day.

Yes!

He gobbles with his turkey call and German soldiers looked up from their foxholes, then he shot them to overtake a firm machine gun emplacement.

He vows to never fight when almost killed by a bolt of lightning. He tries I be a conscientious objector to the draft. His chaplain convinces him from the bible that he doesn't have to be pacifist.
