i'll probably catch heat for this. but the new Pet Sematary film is better than the original IMO ive seen the original several times on tv during AMC Fear Fest/Monster Fest and I cant help but notice that most of the main character actors in the original especially the guy they cast as Louis just has a "Blank WTF am I doing in this movie?" look on their face
the only actor that seemed real into his role in the original is Fred Gwynne

The new Pet Sematary is just ok, no scares, very unbelievable parents. The whole 3rd act is just a bore, once she turned reminded me of Chuckie. Lithgow was good though. Zelda from the orginal was 10x better than anything in the new one, I still remember the scene to this day, "you'll never get out of bed again!"

this is literally proven in every case to be that the poster who says it, has never really seen the original and is just talking out of their arse

I liked the film. It was less a remake of the 1989 movie than a new adaptation of the original novel. Zelda in the 1989 film was played by an adult man in drag, so of course he was scarier. In the novel, Zelda is closer in age to Rachel, as is the case in the new version. I liked that they showed what she looked like before she got sick.
I also felt that Ellie was a more believable and formidable villain than toddler Gage was in the 1989 film. John Lithgow was very good as Jed, and I’m glad he didn’t do that fake Maine accent. I also liked how they went into more detail as to why the ground was “sour” and why it was able to bring back the dead.
Kudos to their decision to include the theme song over the end credits. It was a nice homage to the original.

The orignal wasn't really that good..

the original creeped me out as a kid, but it had been so long i didn't remember much of it. that said, going into the remake was like a 1st time viewing for me.
I liked the remake a lot - the little girl, once turned, took the creep factor to 1000%.

It was totally mediocre. The lead did a good job.

i didn't like how they switched from having the toddler son get killed to his older sister

I posted this in the other thread:

Put me down as a horror fan who really enjoyed Pet Sematary (2019).
To be honest, it’s a better movie than the original. Better acting, better graphics, better everything. But like a reanimated corpse, it lacks the soul and heart the original has. I can’t explain what that really means. You have to be a huge horror fan and a fan of the original to get it.
The Zelda from the 1989 movie scared the shite out of us. This Zelda...not so much. A decade from now, people will still be watching and getting scared by the original. However, Ellie was so much better and scarier than Gage. They made the right choice here in going with her.
And the movie had a cover of the Ramones’ song, Pet Sematary. And that’s pretty awesome.
All in all, I was a fan.

I just got out of it and thought it was one of the better remakes as of late.

Agreed. I don’t get the hate for it on RT both from critics and audience scores. I wasn’t particularly scared, but I still thought it was a solid flick

True. Not nearly as much as this movie though.
