This is random, but I never realized this movie had like the whole damn cast of the walking dead.

Most fricked up ending of a movie ive ever seen

The ending of that movie was actually better than the book ending imo.
No shite, that sure is a lot of the damn cast. I wonder what the connection is.
Nevermind, it was a Darabont movie.

Yeah that ending was all the director. In the book they all live at the end.

Not really, that ending is completely freaking retarded. They are going to go through all that, fight through all that to survive, then just give up on a drop of the hat? Completely idiotic how they don't try and stop anywhere for gas or try to siphon from any of the cars they pass on the interstate. Gee, we could try any of these exits we've been passing to get some gas, nope lets just drive endlessly till we run out instead!
Definitely one of the dumbest movie endings I've ever seen. Of course illogical things are kinda becoming a regular thing with Darabont, see the CDC episodes in season 1 of walking dead.

Plus if they wouldn't have spent so much time sightseeing they could've made it further.

I hate the ending. Darabont changed the ending for the movie, and it comes off as shock for the sake of shock. It would have been better left ambiguous.

Not quite.
It was bleak and full of dispair, but open ended.
King said he preferred the film ending FWIW

Considering King is one of the worst authors of all time at writing endings (and I say that as a big fan of his works), I'm not sure he'd know a good ending if it smacked him in the face.
King's ending fit the novelette very well, it was a grim ending with a small ray of sunshine, with the characters determined to go out swinging. The ending of the movie was illogical based on what had occurred the previous 90% of the movie.

On the DVD, you can watch the movie in either color or black and white. Darabont originally wanted the movie in black and white, but that's not as marketable. But when you watch it that way, you can see why he preferred it. It's very cool looking and adds to the suspense.

I was hoping you could figure it out.

I hated the movie and the new ending Darabont chose. Thought the book (and ending) was much better. I was so ready to love the movie too, but damn, I hated it...not really sure why. It's not all that different from the book, but I was just wanted to end. Came so close to turning it off.

Don't know about you, but I'd rather eat a bullet than have spider monsters use my insides to lay their baby spider eggs.

I dunno if you missed this or not....but did you see what happened EVERY time they went into the mist on foot, regardless of distance?
They took casualties at every turn, and the car isn't an ideal shelter to hide in/recover in.
Oh the suicide seems absurd when you are safe in your theater chair, but not really if you put yourself in their shoes.
The entire point of the car escape was the hope that it was limited to the little valley that the town was in.
Instead they were treated to miles and miles of death and devastation. Horrors upon horrors, to the point that you are completely emotionally numb.
Speaking of which, did anyone notice that there was one, and only one, use of background music in the movie?
"Host of the Seraphim" while they were driving out and seeing the world.
Fits amazing well, and made all the more symbolically significant by its exclusivity.

Plus three from Shawshank (Libby, Sadler, DeMunn)
I think the ending would have been better had there had been a scene showing one bullet fired inside the car, but not at anyone; and you don't find out until the end that everyone inside the car is safe - when the army tanks and rescue crews roll in.
You then see everyone's smiling, grateful faces...but then suddenly hear piercing screams and monsters in the not too distant background, and a close-up of the main characters' eyes moving in unison to the sound, then roll credits.
I also think the holy roller bitch should have been pushed out into the parking lot instead of shot...
