For me I am glad they did that or else we would not have Middle Earth as it is, we would not have the 3 ages, and the LOTR and Hobbit would never have happened. And yes from my perspective I am glad they chose to fight and destroy evil and ignore it.
You, Tolkien, and I agree on your first point. Obviously without Morgoth or Feanor and his sons, the story would be pretty dull. This is why Tolkien never wrote a sequel to LotR despite demand. He though the long reign of Aragorn would be really peaceful and dull to write about. He had interesting ideas for evil arising later that I wish he had developed more.
Tolkien’s point, and the Valar’s point, is that they never could defeat Morgoth. And Feanor and his sons heart was corrupted by lust for the Silmarils, just as Morgoth’s was.
It took Earendil pleading with the Valar for them to take care of Morgoth.
Now Sauron is no Morgoth, and the elves and men defeated him in battle a few times.

Even Galaderiel did not believe he could be defeated.

In appearance, yes. The actress is also pretty good looking. Its her actions and demeanor that is not at all feminine. Again, my brain just doesnt buy what this show is selling...a beautiful millennia old is going to come in guns a blazin pullin knives on people and demanding to see the highest authority *cough manager...no
I think There are fair criticisms of Galadriel and her being a Karen is one of them for sure.
I think She’s already starting to warm
A bit, and you see that in the latest episode.
I dont Think the Mary Sue argument is fair.
1. In world, her abilities are earned. She’s been fighting a war for centuries and she’s the leader of armies. So it makes sense she can kick some arse.
2. All elves know the lore and the show can kick arse. I feel Like the interpretation that she has never lifted a sword would make Galadriel the exception. In show, we’ve seen just average elves kill worms and orcs with literally the chains binding them.

The series has created that story arc, so lets be accurate here. It is not that way in the Lore. But Amazon has the right to make the story the way they want so be it.

That interpretation is from the Lore which just makes her wise and not so eager to jump in with out knowing what will happen.

I always kind of assumed this was why elves were such badass warriors compared to men. An elven archer might have been perfecting his shooting for millennia vs a man who has 50ish years

I mean I get you. I feel like we are all trying to justify bad plot choices by Amazon. In this world, would it be possible Galadriel is that badass physically? I suppose. To me its just unnecessary. Its shoving a square peg though a clearly round hole and then saying "well technically its squarish now that weve carved a new opening by shoving a square peg through it"

My issue isn’t the plot choice.
I am Fine with warrior Galadriel. I am Fine with young brash Galadriel.
I don’t love how she’s always just pissed off by default, and like I said In episode 4 she shows some Humanity (elfmanity?) and I think She’s showing development as a character. But she basically spent almost 4 full episodes just pissey or making a face riding a horse.

I understand that they have to move the story line along, but the fact that one-third of the giant elven forging tower was built in like two or three days is some bullshite and a pretty bad plot hole.

Elves don’t unionize or take breaks.

That was the most bizarre shot. What were they thinking?

They were trying I assume to make her likable but I have no clue why the use of that shot

Except the men in Numenor are getting ready to unionize and fight the Elf scabs
But also need to remember the Dwarves were helping them build it

My main issues were 1. Her face 2. Where they decided to put the shot.
The horse was beautiful. The shot was pretty. It was supposed to be this epic ride… but she’s going to a library. It’s not some epic charge into battle or rising for something life or death.
I haven’t been too critical of the actress herself because I think She has conveyed largely what she’s been asked to, but she was making the dumbest face.

quote:yea all the youtubes are saying he is obviously Sauron. I know nothing outside the movies. But I cant believe the show runners are trying to head fake The Stranger as being Sauron... it is extremely obvious he is Gandalf.

My only issue with Halbrand being Sauron is 1. His behavior when Galadriel isn’t watching. It sorta makes sense that Sauron want to get into a forge but also it doesn’t. He could find another forge.
2. Galadriel is supposed to warn everyone not to trust him. Currently they’re setting it up so that she would be the one introducing him to people.
I’m thinking Ring Wraith or Army of the Dead king.

From the Lore.

He gave nine of them to great lords and warriors of Men, including three Númenóreans, and one Easterling king
So it looks like maybe 1 King
