This whole thing started with y’all complaining about black elves.
Don’t play that game now.
If no one saw color who would even know this change was made.

Says the woke white guilt nerd speaking for black people on their behalf. You people are mentally ill.

We saw change of story and racism against tolkien.
You have seen color from the beginning you mentally ill freak.

Tolkien’s works are explicitly meant to reflect a cultural & regional narrative he felt needed telling.
Link? Tolkien didn't want in any way his stories to be a symbolic representation of certain things. In particular world events and people in particular.

How pathetic that anyone would feel he needs correcting.
Not sure what this was in response to but yes, in a way it is pretty pathetic if someone thinks they feel they can tell a better story than Tolkien.
quote:
This is no different than the Taliban destroying great Buddhist carvings & other ancient structures.
Except this show isn't destroying Tolkiens work.

Stop parroting generic pro-Amozon talking points. Read up on his motivations for constructing the world & from where he drew inspiration.
It is. The first strikes at destroying what he built.

They always point to the quotes about Tolkien wanting to create a pre-historic mythology for English people.
Then somehow draw a straight line that such a thing means that unlike any other mythology, updating aspects of it, specifically the race of any of the inhabitants, is sacrilege.
Likely saying so in a home that has a picture of, or belongs/belonged to a church with an image of Jesus looking like long-hair Bradley Cooper.

We can quote Tolkien telling you he hates allegory and prefers his readers thinking for themselves.

It is. The first strikes at destroying what he built.
It is not. You’re just a chicken little who thinks anything the doesn’t approve of is some master conspiracy to destroy it.
You don’t even for 1 second consider people enjoy Tolkien’s works differently from you. That’s you’re interpretation of what’s important isn’t universal.

Never knew so many white woke nerds hated tolkien and his work.

If Jesus were alive in the USA today, what color would he be on the US Census?

Would we give him a census as a foreign born radical cleric?

These white woke racist nerds can’t ever just answer a question.

Well obviously, we'd need to assume He's a citizen in this scenario.
Are you scared to answer the question?
ETA: To answer your question: it depends on who is in power. If He's not a citizen and a Democrat is in power, we'd still count Him. If He's not a citizen and a Republican is in power, we probably wouldn't.

I don't know what pro Amazon talking points there is, I'm not even pro this show. What I'm saying is what Tolkien said in the forward to The Fellowship of the Rings. You know, the person who's opinion actually means something. Not just a bunch of people that have read Tolkien and think they know the meaning behind all of his writings. I'm going off of what he told his readers, not some Amazon talking points.

You might think Tolkien is a tree that can be felled, I don't.

He’s gonna accuse you of getting it from Reddit rather than actually talking about the quote.
Remember, elves being white is the most important think about Tolkien’s books. If you change that everything else falls apart.

You constantly bring up race which tells me that’s all you’re worried about you stupid frick.
You wanted to change the story and characters because you hate tolkien and white people. It was never about making the best show possible.

Nah, just worried about a good show.
The fact that some of y’all ranted about this for months and refuse to watch the show let’s me know what y’all care about.
I dont know how y’all can’t rant about black dwarves for months and months and months and the. Pretend like we’re the ones who care. We just don’t let you pretend it didn’t happen
I asked SEK point blank if this ruins the work and he said yes. So why are you pretending he doesn’t care.

I didn’t want to do any of that. I just don’t care enough to hate the show.
quote:

It always was about that. An all white cast wouldn’t make this show better or worse. It will sink and swim on the writing and acting alone.
