Likely a good call. They ruined Laurie for me and I was most interested in her charcter after Kevin.
We could have had a mother who left her husband of around 20 years and 2 kids to join a silent cult. I wanted to see how that would play out.
Instead we got
The older college boy isn't his so the mom got married/knocked up at a very early age before her marriage to our hero. After several years of marriage she joins a cult and files for divorce.
That ended so many possibilities for her charcter.

What was her character doing when you last saw her tonight?

She is obviously in a strange cult but acted normal at times crying when her husband showed up and begged her to come home. She sat outside the house when the Reverend came across her last episode explained her sacrifice to the new recruit.
If Kevin was a high school sweetheart she has been married to for over 2 decades that she has 2 kids with there is an interesting story for her leaving them.
Since the oldest boy is someone else's kid she basically has 2 failed relationships. The kids have different fathers while she joined a cult.
I was intrigued as to what would possess someone to leave their family. That story is dead before it ever took off. She is just another person that is constantly making poor decisions or just flat out crazy. Potentially both.

She still did that. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. Just because one of their kids isn't Kevin's and they weren't married for 20 years doesn't make her leaving that different. That was still her family.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but the actors playing characters not in the GR have got to be jealous of the GR actors. The have no lines

Why is Laurie so broken up? Her 2 children and husband survived. It's not like that other chick whose entire family left.

The whole point of this show is everyone's reaction to the event. Many of them appear to be driven to different types of "crazy".
That looks to be heating up.

I quit in the middle of this episode. Maybe this show will turn the corner but I've lost my desire to watch. I want there to be something there because I don't have anything else to watch right now.

I don't have a problem with blended families but I dont see the point of not making Tom his biological son.
She seemed like she had a normal life and her household survive the disappearances intact. I've wondered what would drive a normal person to leave everything to join a cult. I was interested to see that storyline play out.
Instead there was just and "I'm broken" letter about him, a failed relationship, and other life issues. She has no mystery anymore and they killed an interesting character.

Ace already asked you, "what was the last thing you saw her character doing?".
This storyline isn't done..

Yeah - I don't get this "Episode 4, it hasn't taken off, f*ck this" attitude - everyone knew, going in (hopefully), that this was going to be a weird twisty ride.
I never liked Lost - although I admit I didn't catch it at the beginning and don't like Abrams, generally. While that is the fear - that this show just unloads mystery after mystery, asks question after question, and ends up solving/answering just a few - I'm okay with the story progress, thus far - they have to introduce well over a dozen characters, show these various factions pursuing their various goals, and slowly introduce the supernatural part of it.
It has vaguely a The Stand vibe to it, at this point, although I have not read the source material.

I never said it wasn't done. There are plenty of people who have been through failed relationships and blended families. She is the one that went dear diary on being broken over a common situation.
I have watched all 4 episodes and looked foward to the show in advance. I didn't want to spoil it for myself but did look up charcter bio for show and book. If it hasn't been edited Tom is described as Kevin's son, not stepson.
I don't mind the curveball but do find her letter a weak explanation since her situation is so common. If her and Kevin had always been together with 2 kids then I think it would have been a better storyline as to why she would leave.

Not bothered that Kevin and crazy have only been together 18 or so years. Doesn't make her decision to abandon her family ant less fricked up.
What's up with the 18 wheeler full of dead people?
How could somebody not realize this show was going to be a slow burn.
I'm enjoying it so far.

I think those are artificial corpses that a company is selling so people can have funerals/burials of those taken.
Not 100% sure, but pretty sure.

Me too - I don't love it yet, but I like it.

I don't need all the answers now, but I need to care enough about the story and the characters to wait around to discover the what and why. About half way in last night, I just found myself not caring anymore. Hopefully there will be some movement in the plot in the next couple of seasons and then I'll watch it straight through on HBO Go.

I understand the decision to bolt was fricked but I was looking foward to a good story. I still may get it but she isn't the only person that has had a bad relationship. I'm broken is just a weak excuse.
I was hoping they had always been together. She then would have had a decent husband with a job and 2 kids by him with their house untouched by the disappearances.
Why would she leave that to join a cult? That was a good side story.

To me it still is. Maybe her 1st husband plays a role in it. Maybe she knew Kevin was cheating and used the new cult as an excuse to get the frick out. Her motives are still a mystery. Speaking of, I may have missed it but is Liv Tyler really joining the cult or is she infiltrating them to gather info.
That was a total dick move by the GR to steal everybody's pictures of lost loved ones.

I think she is joining the cult. I would whoop wholesale arse if they took my pictures(or get my arse whooped trying)
Maybe the wife thing will work itself out. I was expecting and wanting to see her transition from the status quo wife and mom to cult lieutenant. They have already had her admit she is damaged so that ruined a good possibility imo.

I really like the series so far, it's very different though, I can see why most wouldn't enjoy it.

What does A.C. and B.J. mean in the title of the episode?
I'm hooked...When she threw the lighter in the drain, I hoped she would go back for it
