you didnt disprove anything. I posted the live cable ratings were 0.7 million before you ever posted them.

The 1st episode of the season had 0.938 million cable viewers and 5.3 million cross-platform live viewers.

HBO reports a strong average of 37 million global viewers (total cross-plarform, NOT LIVE) per episode for the entire season

Maybe you wouldn't have been confused if you read what i posted about the 32 and 37 million viewers not being live overnight ratings.

I'm not mixing up any numbers. To calculate viewership, HBO counts its programming until 90 days post-premiere across all platforms.

Per HBO, here’s each season’s average for “Game of Thrones” entire run: Season 1 – 9.3 million, Season 2 – 11.6 million, Season 3 – 14.4 million, Season 4 – 19.1 million, Season 5 – 20.2 million, Season 6 – 25.7 million, Season 7- 32.8 million, and Season 8 – 46 million. Those numbers are a combination of viewership across linear, on-demand, the now-sunset HBO Go and HBO Now, and other OTT platforms.

from the Sunday ratings. we won't see them for the finale until tomorrow.

Can you post a link? While traditional cable ratings are a less useful metric nowadays, looking at the trend across S1 and S2 would be more useful than trying to compare different metrics.
quote:

the last big HBO memorial day finale i could find was succession finale in 2023. On May 28, 2023, the Succession series finale, "With Open Eyes," drew in a series-high 2.9 million viewers.

So The Last of Us did beat its Memorial day performance.

I mean I would hope it beat Succession. That season of Succession had an average 8.7 million (I assume US, since that’s how HBO reported numbers at the time) viewers per episode when accounting for delayed streaming. This is the number WBD reported after the finale, comparable to the 30.4 million average US viewers they reported after the TLOU season 1 finale (2 months prior to the Succession finale).

If that’s the comparison you want to make (for lack of anything else to compare), then.. OK I guess. Let’s make it:

The Succession season 4 finale’s 2.9 million same-day viewership represented approximately 33% of their 8.9 million US average total viewership by episode, measured at season’s end. That’s actually a higher percentage than the season 1 finale of TLOU (8.2 million same-day viewers / 30.4 million average US viewership measured at season’s end = ~27%).

So for the sake of argument, let’s say average same-day finale viewership is somewhere in the neighborhood of 25-35% of average total US viewership measured at season’s end. That would put TLOU season 2 average total US viewership at something like 10.6-14.8 million. Or a ~51-65% drop-off from season 1.

If we just look at the same-day viewer totals for the season 1 and season 2 finales, it’s a ~55% drop-off. Same general ballpark. Even if this was an especially bad Memorial Day for TV and the finale only represented 15% of the average total, it would still be a ~20% drop-off. Again, all signs point to a major loss of US viewers from S1 to S2.

They are all on the wikipedia page.

But just watching after the credits for 1.5 seasons, nobody in the history of television likes to sniff their own farts as much as these showrunners

I caught up last night, and am disappointed except for the last five seconds of the show ( ). But I keep seeing people reference the after credits thing with the writers...I record every single episode and have never seen this. Once the episode ends it just starts into ads and trailers for other shows on the network. I've never seen the writers part y'all keep talking about. Any idea on why?

I'll keep my thoughts on the last two episodes to myself, as I'm catching up on the thread and most of my points have been covered.

I was watching on the HBO/MAX app. Maybe it doesn't do it when you just record from the station? It's normally after all the credits and preview for the next week.

They're very clearly puff pieces produced by hbo to promote the show, and to promote the idea that the show is good. You should ignore them, and you should continue to ignore them for every HBO show. The ones for House of the Dragon s1 were insufferable.

Umm HBO isn't telling these guys how to feel about their own show. I mean HBO obviously wants it to spin it nicely but they are obsessed with themselves and their story, it's ridiculous.

Disagree. A show going on right now, Hacks, is a really good post credits watch. writers are very cool and insightful. Game of Thrones was really interesting until they called it in. Regardless of how people felt about the show, Nolan and Joy and the cast were nice to listen to after Westworld. Plenty of others.

Yea, not that great.

I stream on the app and it tells at the beginning of the episode there's an after show (does it with other HBO Max shows too that has them). Then you'll get credits, preview for next week, and then the after show. I'm guessing it's not a live option on the HBO channel.

Uh, the ones for Hacks have been great. Same with White Lotus.

And the after show does sometimes provide discussion on motivation for changes in adaptation and some other snippets.

This seems like a very narrow view of after shows in general. It's not the same from show to show.

Now that I am caught up on the thread, you are 100% right on that. The sooner y'all realize that Corinthians is a bot and treat him as such, the sooner his bullshite should subside. I have no idea why some of you keep engaging him over and over (and fricking over) for pages and pages when he literally keeps posting the same statements with the exact same sources. It's maddening to read.

Nothing i posted was wrong. Madking just refuses to accept facts.

HBO has been measuring their shows in the same method for a while.

Him posting the live cable numbers that i had already posted saying those were the actual ratings didnt make any sense. We have nielsen data for streaming minutes. Streaming is the vast majority of viewership

Anyone actually talking about the show or at least the last episode? Or is this just a thread for arguing about how many people watched?

I don't care how many watched. I'd watch if it was a billion or 100.
